Just in case anyone else runs into the &quot;Failed to Check for Software Updates&quot; error on a Vista machine that isn't resolved by Answer 388 . . . try right-clicking on the MEM icon, choosing &quot;Run As Administrator&quot; and *then* try &quot;Check for Software Updates.&quot;  I don't know why that worked since I *am* an administrator, but it did.  &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;My situation was that I had MEM running on a Vista machine...</description>
