Reconcile investment account

This problem has popped occasionally in 2006 and 2007. I just reconciled an investment account in which my ending cash balance was $629.50 and no adjustments were required. I closed out the reconcile process and on my register, the cash balance shows $5250.00. There are no unreconciled items in the account.How does one correct this situation such that the cash balance on the register agrees with the amount in the reconcilement process? By using the adjust cash balance procedure, the adjustment has to remain unreconciled otherwise, an additional adjustment is made that reverses the adjustment and takes the balance back to the wrong amount
