Catherine Kitcho's new book, "Happy About Being a Baby Boomer: Facing Our Newfound Longevity" is now in print and available from Amazon.com and also the publisher.  This book will kick-start Baby Boomers into facing longevity NOW and will help them create a plan to pay for those extra decades.  Ms. Kitcho uses an expense-based approach to retirement planning to calculate "Longevity Cost", using Quicken as a tool:

"The first and primary goal is to make sure we can pay for basic living costs. Then, and only then, can we begin to think about other things we'd like to do during retirement, such as travel, recreation, or leaving a legacy."

This is a very practical workbook to use for retirement planning and decision-making, with up-to-date information and examples. Key topics in the book include:

  • Life expectancy of Boomers

  • Health trends, health insurance and Medicare

  • Calculating Longevity Cost

  • Lifestyle changes

  • Sources of income for retirement

  • Adjustments to Longevity Cost

  • Personal stories and a quantitative example
