I greatly enjoyed the thread about integrating QMEM with Quicken. Here's an idea I had for users of multiple Intuit products.

If you are a Quicken, QMEM and a TurboTax user, I think it would be nice if TT could give users the option to compare schedule A expense data that was generated by Quicken and QMEM.

I would like to see TT have an option that is something along the following lines:

Data from Quicken shows medical expenses of $X for tax year 2006 and data from QuickenMEM shows $Y for tax year 2006. Which value do you want to report to the IRS?

Obviously, the wording could be improved, but the basic idea is there. I think it's safe to assume that users vary tremendously in how detailed they are in entering expenses between the 2 programs. Personally, I have found QMEM to be a big help in getting more accurate Schedule A reports in Quicken, but that's just me.

My vote is for TurboTax to allow the functionality to import QMEM data just as it does with Quicken data.

You might be surprised at how few of us meet this description. If you've read all of QuickenLisa's posts, you'll note that the QMEM team is quite sensitive to this fact.

If you have an FSA, the value of Y is very likely to be wrong. Until QMEM handles partial FSA reimbursement <including mileage>, its numbers cannot be blindly trusted.

Not just Quicken. ;-) I agree, but that's because I know the limitations of the tax related reports and can adjust for them manually.

My vote is for TurboTax to allow the functionality to

import QMEM data just as it does with Quicken data.

This is a suggestion for TT, not for QMEM. Where's the TT forums? :-)

Overall, this seems like a noble goal, but the programming team really needs to focus on cleaning up the tax treatment tracking of expenses <my issues stated above> and adequately "optionizing" deductible and OOP-max treatment, before working on a feature that may alienate their less Intuit-centric audience.

BTW, while I temporarily disagree with your suggestion, I appreciate the clarity of your post.

I agree that QMEM development time would be better spent fine tuning the medical management features rather than attempting to integrate with Turbo Tax, Quicken Financial, or both. ?:|
