Please include the Quicken 2006 "Organize and share important document" features in QMEM v2.x:

http://quicken.intuit.com/commerce/catalog/product.jhtml?view=new&prodId=prod0000000000007992901

"New! Attach electronic documents in Quicken ? even receipts ? for quick and easy access. Never lose another critical document. Attach electronic statements, scanned receipts, even warranty information to a Quicken transaction or account. Save paid checks for backup ? so you never have to go back to your bank for copies of canceled checks.

New! Easily share reports by converting them into PDFs. By saving your reports in PDF format, you can email them to your financial planner or accountant or file them electronically for your own records."

QMEM entries could easily have attached statments, EOB's, reciepts, etc.

Does anyone else think that they would like these features in QMEM?

This is another thing I actually tried with my old Access-based medical tracking system. For every bill record or EOB record, I had the ability to scan in an image of the bill or EOB - later I could click the "view scan" button and see the image of every bill and EOB.

When I created this I thought it would be great, and I'd get rid of my paper files and have a totally thorough record in my computer.

Turned out it was way too time-consuming to keep up with. I did it about 10 times and then stopped. I can imagine people who only have 10 or so bills a year doing this, but anybody who has more than that will be unlikely to feel like scanning documents in for every record in MEM.

More importantly, the scanned doc never gives me any info I need - everything I need is in MEM, so I would never look at the scanned doc anyway.

However, I can imagine some people getting benefit from it, and it might be possible for Intuit to make the scanning faster and simpler than it was with my old system. Plus it would be a great "bell and whistle" feature - so as long as it doesn't clutter the interface, it might be valuable.

And so long as it doesn't make the delivery date slip. After QLisa's announcement yesterday, I'm more eager than ever for v2 to come out. :D

I also like the new features in Q2006. This would be a perfect addition to QMEM. I regularly "scan and can" my old bills, receipts, etc. Having QMEM able to store scans of medical bills, hospital invoices, etc., would be a great feature.

Yes, PLEASE add this feature. This is the only feature that has made me think about switching from MS Money to Quicken.

After spending some time with QMEM, I have to agree with Dan. To scan, name, and document manage a large number medical papers would be very time consuming and would require a fairly reasonable computer system.

Electronic document management is a serious application in it's own right. I would prefer to see QMEM developers spend the time addressing the many, many nuances to tracking providers, insurance, payments, etc. Lots of complexity there.

I'm a pretty experienced computer user but it's unlikely I'd spend significant time scanning documents. Perhaps when more of the medical communication is in electronic format (like bank statements, brokerage accounts, etc.) it might be worth a shot. ;-)

LanMan,

I've read several of your postings and usually agree with your ideas... but not this one. Most "Winders" and Winders itself keep getting more and more bloated. I just gor Quicken 2007 and would not want to add to the way overgrown files atall! >:)

Sorry 'bout that!

Fernando

Interesting comment, FernandoAMacLean. The thoughts I expressed in my January post (just ahead of yours) have not changed. I would like MEM to concentrate on the actual financial number crunching and not bloat with additional features, which can be accomplished in other ways. ;-)
