When I try to start QMEM V2 I get the subject error message in a box titled "Problem with Shortcut". Any suggestions on the cause and resolution would be apprecitated.

What operating system are you using?

Also, when you RIGHT-click the QMEM icon, left click Properties and left click "Shortcut" what does it say in the "Target" box?

This actually sounds like a Windows error, rather than a QMEM error.

THINK IT THRU! Have you explained your issue so that someone who knows nothing about you, or YOUR Quicken setup, can understand what your issue is? Are you using standard Quicken terminology, particularly with respect to FILES, ACCOUNTS and CATEGORIES?

I'm using WinXP Pro-sp2

Also, when you RIGHT-click the QMEM icon, left click

Properties and left click "Shortcut" what does it say

in the "Target" box?

As I mentioned, the Target box is empty. It is also disabled. (can't type, paste, or tab to it)

This actually sounds like a Windows error, rather

than a QMEM error.

That is what I thought, until I saw someone else's post on it. What is strange is that ALL my other shortcuts are fine. What is even more strange is that BOTH of my MEM shortcuts are bad.

I am running as an administrator. I have double checked the permissions on the shortcuts. I have full control on them. I do remember deleting the autorun entry for memdesktoptoolapp.exe, since I don't use the reminders anyway. Perhaps mem needs that app running? Anyway, I tried manually running it, followed by trying the shortcuts again and it had no affect. I put the autorun entry back in the registry and will try it again later, when I reboot.

I consider myself to be very proficient with windows, but this one has my baffeled! Like I said before, I can easily fix it by recreating the shortcuts. I'd just like to get a better understanding of the problem first.

Thanks,

-Steve

You're right I think. The target field is blank. All fixed now. Thanks for the help.

johnk ... welcome to the forum.

Glad to see that the problem is solved. I'm a little curious about how the shortcut target became corrupted. Was this the shortcut on the desktop or the one in the Start menu ... or both? Did installation seem normal?

Good luck with MEM.

I am experiencing the exact same problem here. The error happens whether I launch the program from the desktop or start menu. The 'TARGET' field is blank in both shortcuts... however, I can not change the target field. It is not an editable field.

I can run the program just fine if I launch it directly from the program folder. I'm sure I could recreate the shortcuts to solve the problem. Before I do so, I wondered if you would like me to check anything while the system is still in flux?

The program has been running fine for quite some time both before and after the latest version update.

Let me know if there is anything you'd like me to do!

Thanks,

-Steve

Go back in this thread and read my message of 5/14. What EXACTLY happens when you follow my instructions EXACTLY?

Do you, perhaps, not have Administrator privileges on the computer where you're running QMEM?
