Hi Everyone,

The MEM team has been hard at work building the new version of MEM (kudos to the team!). We are at a crucial phase in the process -- Beta testing -- where we need your help to test the product.

This is an opportunity to use the new version of MEM and provide feedback to the team before the software is completed.

We would also love to talk to people who have never used MEM. If you have any family or friends who would be interested in trying the product for the first time, then invite them to sign up!

To sign-up, please go to theMEM Beta Sign-up Form

If you have already received an invitation to sign up, then there is no need to sign up through the link on this post.

Thanks for your help!

Hector

Hi Barrie,

It's good to have testers with a wide range of experience -- from complete newbies to long-term users. So sure, if you have the time and inclination, please sign up!

I have signed up for the beta testing. When will we know if we will be eligible for the beta testing. I am hearing impaired in both ears and recently suffered a hearing loss earlier in the year. Due to this, I have a lot of doctors appointments I have to go to and thought this program would be ideal to track my office and hospital visits including my wifes medical history. Please consider me for testing.

Sincerely,

Chris Stern

How do you pick the beta testers from the entries submitted? Do you look at the credentials individually or randomly pick them out of a hat? How will we be notified if we are going to be beta testers.

Are the current testers automatically testing the new version? I have enjoyed using the current one and would like to be included in the beta testers of the new version.

Hi all,

Excellent questions! First off, let me clarify that current users (who purchased QMEM, Version 1) are NOT beta testers. You folks are customers, and I thank you for buying our product. :) Beta testers are people who have agreed to try out the next version of the software, while it is being developed.

The purpose of a beta test is to make sure the new software works well for a variety of people on a variety of systems. So, in selecting beta testers, we will look at the answers to the questions in the sign-up form, such as geographic location, what kind of health insurance plan(s) you have, what other software you use, the operating system of your computer, etc. The idea is to get a certain number of testers with each characteristic.

Once the beta testers are selected, they'll be notified by email. The email will also contain instructions on what to do next. The beta test will last several months.

During the beta test, the testers are asked to install and try out the new software. Every few days, testers get an email asking them to do certain tasks with the software and answer questions. For example, you might be asked to enter some data or print a report. There are also some surveys to fill out. Occasionally, the QMEM team may telephone you to ask questions about your experience.

If you find a bug, you must report it. (There WILL be bugs -- that's the nature of a beta.) If you have suggestions, you submit them.

There's lots more information about what to expect on the signup web site, located <url=http://beta.intuit.com/bulldogsu/welcome.cfm?RefSrc=Forum>here.</url>

Thanks so much for your interest!

Hi Barrie,

I'm not sure if we're explicitly excluding those who work for market research firms. I would, if what we were conducting was market research. This is different.

I know you didn't mean to imply it would be OK to lie on the signup form. But let me just say that it's important for everyone to be honest when signing up. The point of the test is to get a wide range of experience and situations, so that when the product is released publicly it will meet the needs of all its users. The team needs accurate information to work with. We trust our forum friends and good customers to help us out with that. :-)

Cheers,

Lisa

I meant about my occupation....in the mkt research world, we're typically exempt from everything so we're used to fibbing a bit when it comes to occupation if we want to participate in things. That's all I meant.

I know you didn't mean to imply it would be OK to lie on the signup form. But let me just say that it's important for everyone to be honest when signing up.

Quicken Lisa,

Sounds as if you have given the heads up to Gary to be a Beta Tester without looking at all the potential applicants.

Cstern,

Gary was a beta tester for QMEM version 1. He did a great job, so I'm glad he's willing to do it again. However, I also want people who were not version 1 testers, and even people who haven't used version 1 at all.

We are recruiting hundreds of testers, with a variety of characteristics. Lots of opportunities for everyone!

Thank you for your explanation...now I understand what you are looking for.

Approximately, how many beta testers are you looking to have testing this product?

Sorry if I was being a pain as I did not mean to be.

Forum friends,

Just to let you know that beta testers were selected today. If you are among those selected, you'll receive an email from Intuit tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 23).

I'd like to thank everyone who applied to be a tester. There were actually several hundred more applications than there were slots for testers. Very exciting!

If you were not selected, please understand that it wasn't personal. Testers are selected based on criteria such as type of operating system, type of insurance plan, etc. There are lots of folks with Windows XP and PPO plans, for example, so we just chose randomly among that group. Please hang in there and keep using QMEM version 1. You will definitely hear from me when it's time to get your free copy of the new upgrade.

Again, thanks to everyone who volunteered. You folks are amazing! :D

Hi Lisa:

I had a problem with my mailbox this morning, so I'm not sure if the e-mail went out regrding the beta. If I was selected and the e-mail had gone out, could I trouble you to resend it to me again?

Looking forward to working with you again,

Gary

Lisa,

Can you tell me if I was chosen to be a beta tester? I am hearing impaired and have gone through a lot over this past year as I have lost additional hearing which requires a lot of doctors appointment. This software would be a great product for me and would love to help with the next version of Quicken Medical Expense Manager.

Hi Cstern, and thanks so much for your interest. If you were selected as a beta tester, you would have received an email on Friday. If not, I apologize -- we did have about twice as many volunteers as there were spots for testers. We may need to recruit more testers later this year, depending on how things go.

Do you have Version 1? In any case, the next version will be coming soon, and everyone who purchased Version 1 will receive a free copy.

Thanks again,

Lisa
