Quicken is a great product, and I hope the development team listens to this feedback, so they don't lose business to competitors who will gladly fill the gap they've left.

The purpose of having Quicken on a mobile device is to habitually enter transactions as they happen (not forget to do later) and thus always know your true balance. Also, to consult your budget when considering purchases. Quicken online for iPhone fails on both points.

First, there is no option to refresh accounts in the iPhone version.

Second, if I want to add a transaction as it happens, it requires me to load the site, enter my username and password, wait for the next page, confirm my bank, wait for next page, click on Add Transaction, wait again, finally add the transaction, and wait for it to save. Not very convenient, especially when people are behind you in line or when making a series of small purchases. Ideally, I should be able to click an iPhone icon that instantly takes me to an Add Transaction window with no need to log in.

Third, no budgeting.

Potential solutions:

Automatically refresh accounts if user has not already logged in that day. Competing products do this.

Remember my username with a cookie, and create an optional home page that combines an Add Transaction and password request form together. The home page could have a drop down menu of accounts, or there could be a separate home page per account for this (most transactions are same account).

Create a native app for iPhone (and Blackberry friends, too) that logs new transactions into server automatically, if not necessary account balance requests.

Enable budgeting.

And as far as I can tell from what I'm seeing online, the WebOS will be supporting old Palm OS apps, which means Pocket Quicken.
While WebOS will probably run Pocket Quicken via the Classic emulator, you won't be able to sync with the desktop, at least not in the initial release of the Classic environment.

"Q: Is there a HotSync support in Classic?

A: Unfortunately, not in the first release. HotSync and conduits are some of the most requested features we have received requests for so far and we are looking into various ways for solving this problem, but there are some serious technical and other obstacles for adding HotSync support to Classic."

Completely agree with KyleKoehler... just create a Quicken for the iPhone... a Quicken like the Pocket Quicken I've been using for YEARS! I would pay the price without batting an eye! I have too many years of data and too much wonderful experience with the Pocket Quicken. Fantastic!

I agree. Provide a pocket quicken for the iPhone that will allow auto backup either to quicken online or mobile me.

I currently sync my Treo 700P wirelessly through bluetooth. I wonder if we can sync Pocket Quicken in the Palm emulation on the Pre the same way. Wonder if other Palm OS apps could sync by bluetooth also.
I guess we can find out in a few weeks!

At first I thought that Quicken for the iPhone was broken when it was never in sync with my bank but after reading this thread I see that it was never designed to work. Disappointed and confused :(

OK people...WHAT GIVES? Why cant Landware who currently produces Pocket Quicken develope a solution for the iPhone. What IS the problem with producing what is clearly a darn near necessity for the iPhone? I am chomping at the bit to switch to the iPhone since I am a staunch lifelong mac user. It really escapes me WHY we dont have some answer since the SDK has been out for sometime now and there are already thousands of apps for the iPhone. Someone needs to lay down the marketing crapola and GET the user what they WANT and NEED. AMEN! LOL

There is a Quicken app for the iPhone and it's free. Search the App Store for Quicken or Intuit, but it only works with www.QuickenOnline.com.

Quicken on-line is a flat out terrible product. Completely worthless if you want to know what your real balance is which most of us do.... We need a better solution... Quicken on-line was a waste of development money.

I am looking for a product I can use on my desktop to manage my checkbook. Unfortunately there are few options that work with my iPhone.

Anyone know of plans for Quicken Online to be attached to the desktop version of Quicken? Any reliable software to enter my transactions onto my iPhone then sync with my laptop?

Would be nice if the iPhone app for Quicken Online had a quick enter for a new transaction then update. As it is now I must close the app and reload to get it to show what I added but does not show my "real balance" in the app so I must add in my head what I spent so I know how much I have. Also a way to manually match entries so I don't have to delete my entries from the program to get an accurate "real balance".

    Thanks for your time.

Give up on quicken/intuit. They're not interested in this market. Two other software titles to consider - Splashmoney and IBank. I tried splashmoney for a while, but it didn't update properly with my bank online, and was very slow, especially the iphone app. I've now switched to IBank, which seems to work very well. The iphone app is very speedy for on the spot updating, and syncs with the desktop version effortlessly. And I was able to import my years of quicken data into it painlessly, which also resides in the iphone app version.

    Thanks

I too have tried and find SplashMoney failing. I spent more time working on the program & tech support then managing my money.

I like having access to my checkbook on my iPhone but want to do my bills on my laptop & just keep it synced.

I will have to try IBank and see what I find there.

I too am disgusted with the lack of interest in this specific venue. I finally broke down and purchased the iPhone despite several 3rd party software entities missing. The first being pocket quicken. My resolve is to have purchased checkbook for $1.99. You can enter transactions the configure to sync. All the sync does is export a QIF file which is attached to an email that is sent to self. Once I get the email I save the attachment to my desktop. With desktop quicken open I import this file from my desktop and it places the data into quicken It is far less than optimal, yet at least I can keep track using my iPhone and dont have to carry receipts home to input them. I dont have the ability to see my same account info on my phone as the desktop though. I will use this until HOPEFULLY someone wakes up and makes pocket quicken available for the iPhone. The other issue is I am very dependent on Agendas (by iambic software). Apple will NOT let any TOUCH there calendar program so therefore you dont have access to a MONTH view with all the little icons seen. This is critical for me as I only use a month view and then can see the icons to give me the month at a glance. These issues are critical for us hardcore users and it is VERY frustrating that simple marketing 'ploys' interfere with basic sound end user friendliness! Peace out!

Seems like there are a lot of us with the same needs. I have used Quicken for over 15 years. Great program. Used to use QuickBooks for my business. On-Line banking is great with Bank of America and other banks. Intuit really needs to get Quicken for iPhone up to speed and allow us to get the updates from our banks. I also hope that somehow the Intuit people are listening. A lot of good ideas on this thread

I would like to echo all of the earlier statements about the need for an iPhone App to allow syncing of desktop based Quicken applications. I like my Quicken Home & Business App and have used quicken for over 10 years, but personally I find the iPhone more useful to me then Quicken. If I have to make a choice it will be the iPhone and I will find another app to track my finances.

I posted to this thread a year ago and I check back every couple months. I can't believe there is still no Pocket Quicken for the iPhone. I use Pocket Quicken every day on my AT&T Tilt and it works great with Quicken on my computer.

I'm still holding off on buying an iPhone because of this. I've used Quicken since the nineties, but if there are no plans of addressing this I'll eventually look for money management software that is compatible with the iPhone. Quicken Online is not something I'm interested in.

Intuits current offering of an IPHONE app that synchs to Quicken Online is not a replacement for pocket quicken on my palm Treo.

I'm deciding between moving from my Palm Treo to the Palm Pre or to an Iphone. As far as I'm concerned, whichever phone supports a version of pocket quicken and synchs to my desktop gets my nod.

I'm reluctant to run applications in Palm OS emulation on the Pre. I can't immagine the emulation will run very well.

You may scoff, but I have held on to my old Treo 650 and NOT upgraded to the Pre or IPhone because I have been waiting for Pocket Quicken Apps for either one. Though the growth of the Pre has been disappointing, and it seems, like Intuit, that Palm does not listen very well to their faithful and loyal customers very well. I have used Quicken for 15 years, and Palm for 10 (since the Palm 3).

Hopefully they are reading these forums. Don't miss the market base.

Amen! Landware developed Pocket Quicken and should have no problems porting it to the iPhone. Quicken claiming they have something for the iPhone via the online mobile app just doesn't cut it. Quicken worked with Landware to get the Palm product where it is today. Surely they can work with Landware to get Pocket Quicken ported to the iPhone. I maintain my Treo 680 as a non-phone Palm device for one reason... the ability to use Pocket Quicken. I would gladly pay for Pocket Quicken on the iPhone. Heck... with the port of Quicken to OS-X, Intuit should be able to create a full, or nearly full version of at least Quicken Basic, if not all versions. It's insane to consider that I have to carry 2 devices simply because an app that I rely upon hasn't been ported and there is apparently some reluctance to port.

Is Quicken going to continue to ignore the increasing Palm Pre users? What about Pocket Quicken for Palm Pre? Companion link has developed a way to "sync" through USB for Microsoft Outlook. Will quicken develop software for the Pre? Please give me some kind of answer before I spend hundreds of $$$ to make a patch.

There are several comments on Pre sites of users and would be users that are struggling without there pocket quicken. PLEASE HELP!!!

I totally agree. I've used Quicken since the 90's and can't imagine not having it. I'm a recent iPhone user (from Treo to MotoQ to now) and can't believe that there is no Quicken app that will sync with my desktop. Free or not, I'm not interested in an online solution.

Based on an earlier post, I'm going to check out iBank.....

It is QUITE clear at this point all the clamoring and all the dedicated users of pocket quicken and therefore DESKtop quicken users, are being scoffed at!! If someone out there even really cared there would be some sort of feed back. This is a freakin' Intuit thread and have we even heard a peep? NO! I am so sick of the way this kind of thing is marketed for personal gain ONLY! I feel sure the maker of pocket quicken(Landware) would develop in a HEART beat for the iPhone platform. It HAS to be Intuit who is blocking this whole deal. I have moved on since I bought the iPhone and have given up on an iPhone version. I am making "checkbook" work for me. It isnt NEAR as good or seamless but what can one do? Intuit is in the drivers seat, it must be all about money, and so obviously they could care less about the numerous people like us who really survive using their product. So, I say FOO-EY on them all!

I just received EXTREMELY disappointing news from Landware. I asked them if they had any plans to port Pocket Quicken to the iPhone and this is the reply I received:

"Sorry we do not have an iPhone version at this time, or a planned release date. Intuit does make Quicken Connect (free) for the iPhone"

I would move from my iPaq to an iPod Touch in a heartbeat if I could sync with my desktop Quicken. Looks like I may be sticking with my iPag for some time to come!!

I'd like to add my voice to the chorus calling for a pocket quicken version for iPhone. I've been a quicken user since 1996, and I must admit, your failure to release a decent product for iPhone has me looking into other options.

I've tried the free Online Quicken for iPhone and Desktop, and I think it is next to worthless. We want a product that sycs to and complements the many years of financial data we have accumulated. That's what we want. Provide it, or sombody else will.

Apple should write an iPhone/iPad Quicken app, one that let's you do BillPay as well, with payment account integration just like the desktop version.

Not having Quicken for the iPhone/iPad is the only thing preventing me from buying the new iPad upon release. If I can't do my finances in tandem with my desktop, an initiate BillPay payments, then I can't justify the expense of the iPad. I could do that, and more, on a netbook -- but have no desire to lug one around.

Anyway, Apple shouldn't wait around for Intuit or LandWare to write something; they'll sell a lot more iPads if they do it on their own.
