Can I copy budget from one month to the next? Or I am I expected to go through this whole process every month? Can I ever see how I doing year-to-date? Can I download the budget or import one? I realize that what you spend one some categories varies from month to month, but there seems to be now way to set up an annual budget and then adjust it in those months when an irregular payment is due, such as car tabs or property taxes. It is not very useful to me to only budget one month at a time.

Hi,

When the next month begins (so on September 1), we'll copy your previous month's goals to the next month. So you'll have a bit of a head start.

To see year-to-date, you can look on the Trends page. If you click through the spending pie chart to one of the categories that you're watching as a goal, you can see a red line representing your budget shown against the bars that represent your actual spending. This FAQ includes a picture of that (I think it's the second picture).

But if you want a more detailed budget feature, I'd recommend you take a look at one of the Quicken desktop products. I use Quicken Premier when I want to set up a detailed budget for all income and spending for an entire 12-month period.

This response makes it sound as if Quicken Online is not planning to offer budgeting for a 12 month period. I don't mind using quicken on my desktop to do this more advanced feature, but I would then want to be able to easily switch between the online version and the desktop version. Right now it seems as there is no way to import or export data between the Quicken applications.

That said, I'd imagine that a tool aimed at people just getting starting at managing their money would greatly benefit from a really good budgeting feature. The current Goal feature just isn't going to cut it.
