I'm newly married. Do you have any suggestions as to how to negotiate finances between me and my wife? She tends to spend more than I do. How do I set up a budget that will work for both of us?
Engelsl4 - what my wife and I do is treat our household as an entity/business that has revenue generating tools (our salaries), and expenses (utilities, etc) that must be paid from the overall revenue. Two items of expenses are "spouse spending money" that we are given monthly. That money is deposited into our own separate checking accounts from which we can do what we want (haircuts, clothes, entertainment). Again, this is just spent on us individually. Anything that is considered a community expense comes out of the household account. Hope this helps. Good luck.
ChetaLSU - Thanks for the help! I feel this issue is avoided for a lot of couples and they end up paying for it. I think being clear and proactive about it will make a huge difference!
