I am setting up my budget in the plan spending section. Every time I edit

I am setting up my budget in the plan spending section. Every time I edit a goal for a particular account, a few minutes later (as I edit other account goals) I see that my original goal that I just typed in has been changed. Why is this happening? I'm very frustrated.

Goals revert back to Averages after manual update

This is happening to me as well. I am beyond frustrated. After hours of playing with this I have nearly given up. Within a few minutes on www.mint.com I was able to accomplish this task. I really like the Quicken product, but this is totally a deal-breaker for me. I use the iPhone application as well, which is totally sweet in that you can change the categories (administration) right from the app with the Quicken product, unlike the competition.

Quicken, this functionality does not work. Please test this and you will see the issue.

How could this product be put into production with this lack of functionality. I am totally amazed that more people are not raising this complaint. Was this tested, Quicken? Please help. I love the product with this functionality working.

In addition, when I delete spending categories they magically reappear, even when I have re-categorized the spending to eliminate anything from those "buckets" in advance. Please fix this, Quicken.

I would gladly pay for the final product that is completely functional.

    Jake

    Hi all,

Are you talking about the Overall goal changing when you change any of the other ones? The Overall goal is the one at the top that is the total of your other goals.

But if that's not what you're seeing, can you tell us more? For example, what were the before and after numbers for the two goals in question (the one that you changed vs the one that was changed automatically in error). And what browser were you using?

Also (jakeblaser), when you say categories magically reappear, are you talking about them coming back in the next month's Goals, or are you
talking about them coming back on the Transactions page in new transactions?

    Thanks very much,

    Internet Versions Used:

    Internet Explorer Version 8.0.6001.18702
Safari (current version at the time of posting)

I am not referring to the overall goal, rather individual goals that I would like to budget. I change the goal to a $ amount that I want to not exceed, and then after navigating off of the page and back it reverts back to the "average" (undesired number) from my spending over the last predefined amount of months.

In addition, there are budget goals that I don't want to track that refuse to permanently delete. They appear to delete, but again, when I leave the page and return they are there again. I don't want to see them because I am not tracking them in my budget. I don't want to see them at all. There are no records tied to the undesired budget items that I am trying to delete as I have already recoded them into a new category.

An example is my mortgage budget. It is defaulting to a non-realistic number, which happens to be less than the actual goal. Because of this I am changing it to the actual number for my goal. The budget goal appears to stick until I leave the page and return. Upon my return it is back to the wrong budget amount again. As a result, the budget goal is inaccurate and I cannot rely on the data. This results in an inaccurate budget that I know I will exceed for that category, and every other category that I cannot change in the existing month.

I hope this helps to better explain my situation.

    Jake

    Hi Jake,

A couple of us just tried what you are describing and we can't reproduce the two issues.

Would you have a minute to contact Support and let them know about this? And include your AuthID? That will help us troubleshoot why this is happening to you and others.

You can contact Support by clicking the Support link in the upper-right and then clicking the Contact Us Now link in the window that opens.

You can find your AuthID from the Settings page. Click View in the Account Details section and then you can copy your AuthID.

    Thanks for your help,

I thought this was happening to me too. I was very frustrated, but then I realized that it was only the "overall" category that was not staying at the amount I put it at. Apparently that category changes depending on what all of the other categories add up to. It seems a little counter-productive to have an "edit" option for that category when it is basically going to edit itself. Hope this helps!

The idea is that you can adjust your budget two different ways. You can edit individual items, which will adjust the overall budget up or down. Or you can edit the overall budget, and Quicken will adjust everything else proportionally.

Thanks everyone for trying to help. I am not referring to the overall budget, but rather the individual categories. I am very computer savvy. I have tried this basic task on several different computers that are running various operating systems and also various versions of internet explorer, safari to still have the same problem that cannot be reproduced. There must be some kind of compatibility issue with versions of IE or flash, or something. My Mac and PC are updated with the latest and greatest everything.

This could be such a great tool. What a shame. I cannot believe that more people are not complaining about this - Probably because they gave up a long time ago like I should have. It simply does not work and I cannot get an answer from Quicken other than "We cannot reproduce this."

Why I am even continuing to even try to get this to work is beyond me. Good luck everyone.
