If you click on the transaction, a little bar that says details on it pops up. Click on the bar, on the right hand side of the new window, there is an option to add another category. For example: I deposited $100 in the bank. $50 of that was a paycheck, and $50 of that was birthday money. Add the category "gift" and apply $50 to it.

I've been trying that. Get the all the splits set up, uncategorized amouunt = 0, save and close. Next time I open it, the splits are gone. And I continue to see a huge amount in the uncategorized slot. I know it should work...but it isn't. any ideas?

That is exactly my problem, too. I want to split my credit card bill into the appropriate categories, so my trends and pie graph will be accurate. When I go to details and split it all up, then hit save, the next time I go into that credit card transaction, all the split categories are gone.
Isn't there a way to actually split your credit card bill up and have the individual expenses show in the appropriate categories??

I had a bit of an issue on one transaction. It wasn't recognizing that I was saving those splits. So I went in and re-categorized it a few times as random things just to wake it up and see if it was recognizing the new categories. Once it did, I went back in and split it again. That time it held. Hope it helps.

If you set up an account for your credit card, Quicken should be pulling all the transactions separately.
