I suspect the original question referred to downloading transactions to the desktop version of Quicken, which is a capability existing users NEED. I suspect very few people have the need to export transactions to delimited files etc. as in the linked FAQ.

I could not agree more. I use Quicken Home & Business on my home computer but also travel 50% of the time for work using my work computer. It would be GREAT if I could use Quicken online to manage my finances while on the road and have the ability to sync it up to my PC at home. Because my spouse also uses it at home I cannot take the file with me. it would seem that when Quicken (desktop) goes online to download transactions it could also update the Quicken online file.

Over the last few years Quicken has had very few real functional changes in new versions, just changes in the way it looks. Same animal, different outfit. Sad...

You cannot. I have expressed the same concern to Intuit over a year ago and have yet to receive a response to my post or letter.

Intuit stopped support of QIF exports 5 years ago which prevents most handheld apps from exporting to Quicken unless they pay license fees for intuit's proprietary QFX format. Landware Pocket Quicken is the only app to provide such capability but they only support windows mobile and the palm os and havent made any changes to the product in years. So I dont put much hope in them doing anything to solve the sync problem for iPhone, Android, Symbian or Blackberry users. That would be okay if Intuit offered such export functions in their own handheld apps (e.g iphone app) but they dont.

To me the mobile to desktop or online to desktop synchronization feature is more important than any of the user interface changes that have been made in recent years. People are increasingly desirous of having their financial data with them on their smartphone and dont want to have to enter data twice. With Microsoft departing the personal finance area, Intuit has the opportunity to solidify it's leadership position in the personal finance software area but it doesnt seem to be making the right investments to do so. I would much rather have seen them spend their money on developing significant enhancements in the mobile to desktop synchronization space than purchase their on-line competition.

As a loyal Quicken user who upgraded every year for 10 years, who purchased two versions of QMEM, and who usually employs their tax software this will be the first year I have not upgraded to the new version of Quicken. I have been trying out alternative software including Moneydance and SplashMoney. The former has a good desktop capability and is piloting an iphone app that synchronizes with the desktop. SplashMoney syncs to Blackberry, WinMobile, and iPhone. While neither come close to Quicken's desktop app they are making improvements rapidly. I am considering making a cutover to one of those products when the year ends and I close out my 2009 tax files unless their is some indication Intuit will provide the sync support or go back to supporting QIF for the wide array of smartphone apps that are already out.

Thanks for the info. The last time I e-mailed Quicken and Pocket Quicken they said they where thinking about apps for more moble devices. I did get a Ipod touch and have been moving things from my Palm TX to the Ipod touch. I was using Palm with Money for years. I tried Quicken online with the free app. It is not even close to what I am used to with Money on the Palm. I have been looking at a program called SplashMoney also. I downloaded the free desktop trial version. It does not look near as slick as Money or Quicken, but it will sync with the Ipod touch and Iphone. Thanks for the info on Moneydance, that is a program I had not come across. I still can't believe nobody makes the what seems like the most wanted app for Ipod touch and Iphone.
