I am in the same boat. I do not use a financial institution for what i do just need to enter, keep track of, talley up, reconcile etc.
Pretty crappy set up this quicken if you cannot even use it without giving them a bank.

I had just about made Quicken.Com a limited and useable method to co-ordinate between co-workers and you've tried to outthink us again. Once again, I may eliminate Quicken.Com as useless. I finally was able to use what you provided and now you have done it again. YOU cannot guess at what next months scheduled payments will be!!!! You will not hear from me again if I have to spend 3 weeks to undo your damage.
How? How can you use this wonderful product without having a bank account that is on-line?????? Just CASH. Others have written they don't want Quicken to "manage" their account - but there is NO REPLY. How about a note on the sign up page that says YOU HAVE TO HAVE AN ELECTRONIC ACCOUNT AND YOU MUST PROVIDE YOUR PASSWORD.... At least I wouldn't have wasted the last hour.
Here's a thought:
You could have looked in the "Support" (Help) link in Quicken Online for info on what QO can and can't do.
And you could have searched these forums for the same info (specifically the limitation that all data comes from financial institutions that have signed up to provide data to QO): it's been posted here more than once.
[I've spent way more than an hour checking out Quicken Online ... and I knew beforehand that it probably wouldn't suit me ... but I wanted to understand for myself how it worked. I do not consider my time wasted. A future evolution of Quicken Online might be something I would like to use.]
How to ask a question.

I only have one and you will not let me use it and it is a financial institution for over 100 years but as a private bank and not controled by anyother bank . If I must list one that is the only one I have had for over 55 years.

I just wasted an hour of my life.
I can't imagine Quicken demanding your checking account info and password.
I want to keep my bank name and info to myself.
Anyone with a personality to easily give out this information nees to read a book on identity theft and scams.

Dear Quicken -- here's how to make your program GREAT, which will help you earn user's trust, and then eventually perhaps they'll let you automate their finances:
1 - let people setup MULTIPLE manual accounts which they (manually) reconcile. Your online website becomes WHERE people go to log entries & run reports.
2 - give us the option to rename accounts so we have a checking, savings, etc -- which we manually enter.
3 - let us manually enter data for banks which will not sync. My main bank does not sync with your software, but I can't enter my main accounts manually? Why do that to yourselves?
4 - let us upload spreadsheet data & / or .QFX files (I purchased Quicken Starter Edition) into Quicken Online.
What do you think about that? -- let me know -- Ari = rekzkarz.com

Over, and over, and over again, when talking about online security - especially when it comes to personal finance - we are told DO NOT GIVE USERNAMES AND PASSWORDS TO ANYONE.... and you want my USERNAME AND PASSWORD to my 'financial institution'??? NOT! It sure would be nice instead of "everyone deserves a break and something 'FREE', adding a note with a little * and fine print, maybe? In order to use this version (or, i don't know, maybe it's all of your products).
Give me a break - I don't even know you yet, we haven't been on our "first date", and you want to go to "third base"?? PA-LEEESE!

I think you're missing the entire point of the application. Once you have your account information entered, it will securely transfer your transaction information from your multiple banks into one location to consolidate an overview of your finances. Without the automated retrieval it's essentially pointless. They're really not "managing" your accounts, they're just pulling the information from them - you can't initiate transfers, submit account changes to your banks, etc.
If you're concerned about giving your account information to Intuit then you're probably better off using a desktop product that you can control more directly. I did that for years with MS Money and it worked fine. I did what you mentioned, entered my transactions manually and then sync'd my account transactions down to the desktop program on a regular basis. It worked well, but I'm liking Quicken Online more now because I like having the easier access. Still waffling and going for the full Quicken Deluxe instead though - but I wish they'd create a way for the desktop product to sync with the Online Product!
