I know that you probably need to limit the amount of storage space to users - especially with a free product, but that minimum limitation for new users really should allow you to enter at least 12 months of Historical data (instead of 3).
Otherwise, the trend and goal facilities are much less useful - because you cannot view the annual picture, until you have used the software for at least a year.
Considering that Quicken claims* to be the leader in personal finance apps, their Quicken Online product's lack of usable historical data is very surprising. Any finance product worth anything must allow an ability to present long term trends - past and future. Maybe it is a planned upgrade...but to have this product up live without an acknowledged beta status is amusing.

However, I think this limitation is at least partially imposed by the scope of transaction data available from the financial institutions providing it (at least through the specific mechanism QO is using to retrieve it). For example, my bank only makes 90-days of transactions available on a "live" basis -I can download all the historical data I want in individual statements, but they are all archived in PDF form, and therefore may not be accessible to QO's retrieval query.
One of my credit cards is even worse -it only gives the current month-to-date (and it still requires a security question be entered at every update). So if I don't do a manual refresh on that card on the last day of every month, I could end up missing transactions -and the lack of a means to enter my own cleared transactions obviates that they would be excluded for good.

Agreed. To be honest, I'd pay for the ability to access historical data online. Let me upload .qfx files from my financial institution into Quicken Online and it's worth money to me. I just spent literally 3 hours between the Intuit website and an online chat session to see if there was ANY Intuit product that would let me import historical data AND access it all online. The answer? Nope.
Disclaimer: Quickbooks live chat is not available on the weekends so I couldn't vet that product, but my bank tells me that I can't use Quickbooks without a special small business account, so I didn't keep pursuing it.
PLEASE, please, please offer the ability to add historical transactions to an online version. Again - I'd pay for this capability and I'll bet others would, too.

YES! And as a corollary, please allow us to track our trends up to 12 months prior also. That data is already in the system; it just needs to be organized accordingly. So please put the option to look back 12 months to track my spending trends!

Although you initially get only 3 months of data, if you navigate to Missing Transactions, you can import additional data, albeit in 3 month increments. I was able to successfully download all my 2009 transactions from my bank accounts.
I am interested in how you were able to get the system to import more then the 3 months of data. Can you please explain how to import data older then the 3 months of data. Thanks for your help.
