After being a MS Money user since 1995, suddenly I find myself looking for a new personal finance app (thanks Microsoft!)
I always found MS Money to be overkill for my needs. Just need the functionality of updating the check register from my bank online, maintaining a schedule of upcoming bills and deposits, budget, billpay and upcoming cashflow graph.
Quicken Online appears to satisfy much of this...EXCEPT (surprisingly!), it is crippled in only displaying the 'Spending Outlook' for the next two paychecks. If I get paid on Friday (today) and my wife on the following Monday, Quicken Online shows only an Outlook for the NEXT THREE DAYS! OMG! Often I need to see an Outlook of scheduled deposits and bills for the upcoming 90 to 365 days to see periods that will need my budgeting attention. Integration of billpay is also sorely needed.

I fully agree - I was very disappointed to hear that MS Money is being discontinued, but Quicken Online looks like an excellent alternative (I too underutilized the vast functionality of MS Money). I'm impressed by the iPhone app as well.
But, I am very hesitant to switch to Quicken Online if they limit the outlook in this way - I routinely need to see what my cash flow is for the next 90 - 365 days, and see how adding/changing a recurring transaction affects my longterm outlook.
Also, I have 8 years of transactional history that is already categorized in MS Money, and don't want to lose any of that, so being able to upload this into Quicken Online is a must for me.
But since MS Money doesn't expire for another year, I can wait and hope that Quicken Online gets an upgrade to address these.

I was severely dissappointed in the abandonment of MSMoney by Microsoft. What is even more troubling is if I continue to use the product. If I get a new computer after January 31, 2011 I will not be able to activate the product. My product and my Money files will become useless. And I have data from 1992 when I started using Money.
It appears that this will be a boon for Quicken and it appears that I will have to purchase this product within the next year.
Let's hope that Intuit does not abandon its users.
Good point. No need to trash MS Money quite yet. Hopefully Intuit is watching this forum and is making notes about "basic" functionality missing from their product that their new windfall of former MS Money users will expect.

I just want to add my voice in regards to the Cash Flow Review and Trending features of MS Money. This was and invaluable feature to me the past several years using MS Money and I refuse to go without it. I don't care if it is a licensed, full client product... without that feature... I will have to look elsewhere.

"Update (8/5/09): Later this year, Microsoft will release versions of Money Plus Deluxe and Money Plus Home & Business that will not require online activation. This version will allow you to keep your Money files and transactional history but will not allow access to online services or premium services. Check back here for additional information or look for future announcements in Money Plus."
