That's awesome and you rock. Check this out though: Dec 31st is like make or break day for this feature, which will have a huge impact on the success of quicken online. Why?
Tax year. as soon as that date hits it's a race to get everything organized, and by that I mean cash receipts as well. People such as myself will be forced to jump ship if we can't get our cash receipts deductions tallied via quicken online. Of course launching in the last week of december would beg for hiccups, so please consider setting a deadline in early december for launch. Thanks.
I absolutely agree too! Cash spending needs to be tracked for both tax and budgeting purposes! I realized this the year my accountant told me I'd pulled over $3k out of the ATM, and I had no idea where that money had gone....
I need a manual input cash account! I go out to dinner with friends and we split the bill and I charge it to get the miles. How do I record the cash I received? I go to Costco and buy some stuff and take $60 cash advance on my debit card. How do I record this? I go to Starbucks and pay cash for coffee every day and it adds up. How do I record this? It is obvious we need a cash account!!
YES! YES!! YES!!! I agree with this writer!!! I really need a cash account. When I deposit my paycheck, I always take out cash for my kids, odds and ends at the gas station, newspapers and often groceries. Especially since the online version doesn't split ATM money; it's another thing I can't really budget.
One cash back feature would be awesome.
For example my wife purchased $15 at Albertson's but she took $20 cash back, then the transaction was displayed as $35.
I agree. This application is not really usefull for me until a cash account in available. I run my own business and I need to be able to add my pay to this, so i dont just see my expenses.
I like the cash account (Wallet) but it needs to subtract from the total to show what's left in the wallet on the summary page.
Also, a HUGE thing - I have an iPod Touch and I'd like the app to work when I DON'T have an internet connection. Sync when I do but believe it or not I DO make purchases when I don't have a WiFi available. :)
Having to require the program to sign-on to make any entries sucks.
I'm still trying to figure out how to use the "Wallet" register. I entered all of my transactions but I don't understand how to reconcile what cash I actually have versus what is in the "Wallet" register.
My previous experience with Quicken: I started using Quicken in 1998. I actually found my Quicken 1998 in storage yesterday. I'm a Mac User. I bought Quicken 2006 which I had in my old computer, and now don't know the location of the install. So I can't put it on my new computer unless I purchase a new copy. There is no Quicken 2009, or 2008 for Mac and the 2010 Beta version is barely usable in it's present state--I tried it and have been only doing the requested steps. Why would I buy Quicken 2007 if there will be a new release in 2010?
So I'm trying Quicken online, which is Free probably only because they had to compete with Mint, which is now a non-issue since they bought MInt.
Also I had a Palm Treo with PocketQuicken installed. Now I have a Palm Pre and there is no dedicated app. It (the TReo) sync'd very well with my computer and kept three months worth of expenditures from which I could generate a report (like the time I had a financial meeting to plan my spending). This was a stand alone app that would allow me to update transactions on my home computer.
I'm not a "Budget" person but I work from "Spending Plans". It's a slightly different concept and involves the notion that I am actively in charge of my money. Therefore, I rely heavily on detailed transactions and generated Cash Flow reports from which I guide my future spending.
I suppose the best case scenario is the creation of an app for mobile phones that can store the Quicken data when offline, and then automatically upload the transactions to the online site once your cell phone makes contact with the network again.
If only I would have studied Computer Science instead of creative writing...sigh.
