Budgeting is here! The feature helps you set a budget for the categories you care about and makes it easy to do so by providing your monthly averages as a baseline.

Tell us how you're using the new budget feature, so we are able to customize it to your needs.

Where does it fall on a scale of "crazy simple" to "too tricky for me"?  How many categories are you tracking? Did you pay attention to your monthly average to set your numbers? How frequently will you log back in to check how you're doing? Let us know.

Hi PokerDude,

Thanks for the suggestions!  As for the other features or upcoming features, you can post here in the community about them, (they have and will be read) but you may not necessarily get a response from product management if there is no set-in-stone release date--lots of things are in the works, and usually we mention those features here (like budgeting).  But because things are always changing, we can't always give a ready timeline for new features or improvements on older ones--because sometimes things are postponed, unfortunately--

But, this is the best place to post your suggestions--they will be seen and heard!

Thanks--

Hi Quicken Kathryn.... thanks for the response; however, I'm sure alot of users (to include me) are up in the air on whether to stay and pay for a service that promises certain features but there is no timeline and there was chatter from Quicken employees that these features are coming soon. In fact, in June there was postings about features happening within a few weeks but haven't seem them yet: i.e. add bill payments automatically to upcoming transactions and choose which account to add them to, flag new transactions to prevent incorrect charges and help reconcile, split transactions, etc... I love the product, but it still falls too short for me to pay for another product while my desktop software does everything I need at this time. It would be nice to see more communication from Quicken Online support staff with estimated time-lines, future ideas, etc... with a disclaimer that the time table is flexible. I'm in the IT industry and totally understand delays, but milestones are very important to the consumer.
    Thanks much.

    Hi PokerDude--

Definitely understandable--I'm going to pass your concerns along, and I promise that I will continue to seek updates here for everyone on the community, so you can all get what you want from Quicken Online, and so you know what to expect--I can't guarantee that there will be daily status reports, but I can tell you that if there is information to be had, it will be here--

    Thanks--

It is nice to see this added.

It will help me to separate the extraordinary expenses from the routine ones, and help me decide how I am doing.

For example, I paid property taxes in July, and the expense graph is completely skewed by that. I would like to be able to use the budget to track the routine expenses.

In the past I have had budget targets for all my categories. I'd like to be able to address budgeting in a format like the tracking expenses page, perhaps with a column for what the budgeted amount for the time period for each line item.

I like having a bar chart for each category. I'd like to see more data on the screen though.

The initial view is very intuitive and I like the way it starts out with the averages and all.

I am trying to set up a budget my child and I can track to in college and see the semester/year expected expenses vs. income by month. is there a way to entre budget items for income as well, and also enter for future months?

I like the way it works. It's simple but gives the info you need. Would be nice to re-order items to have your "hot list" at the top and the amount remaining in each category would be an excellent alert or at least be accessible on the mobile version. Do I have to re-enter the budget amount each month (hopefully not) or will it carry forward?

I like the design and find it easy to use, a few comments though:

    1. I like to track all of my categories in the budget, but having them all in there makes this work veeeerry slowly. Sometimes it crashes my firefox.

    2. I'd like to be able to rearrange the order that the categories are displayed in, and get rid of the scroll bar as I cannot see all of them w/out having to scroll between two different bars.

I'm very excited about the new budgeting feature! However, categories are missing in my drop-down list. Specifically I was looking for Dining and cannot find it. Are all the categories suppose to be on the list?

I track 10 items in my budget tracker. The graphics could be smaller and refined (like Mint) so you could quickly view the whole picture. I like to use this to track when bills have come through. For instance, I my Mortgage tab will fill up once my payment has gone through. I do the same for Auto loans etc...this let's me know what regular bills have not gone through via the slide bar but it works better on Mint. I was excited about the budgeting but now that it is here it leaves much to be desired...

I just noticed the new budgeting feature today and was excited when I saw the new tab. However, I have tried 7 times now to update the budgeting info to reflect accurate goal and spending info and it keeps freezing internet explorer. This is VERY frustrating. In the span of 1 hr I have gone from liking quicken online to wanting to switch products.

Great suggestions. Right now, there isn't a way to enter income for future months, but you can add an upcoming expense and project that way. Look for more features with cash projections in Mid October.

Hey Bermster --- I really and truly hope that QoL has scheduled improvements and updates prior to October. I'm still waiting for many other features.... I can do without budgeting... but highlighting new transactions and auto adding bill payments to upcoming transactions is necessary for me please. Please respond.... thank you.

Thanks for the note. Budgeting was released last week. Check that out. It shows you your past months averages and helps you set the budget by category, ad well as overall. The auto adding expenses will be about a month out for us. Hopefully you have been using the upcoming transactions to add expenses though. Thanks for your patience PokerDude.

Thanks for the reply Bermster. Yes, I do use the upcoming transactions all the time....but there are really 3 items that I would really like to have added. 1. Flag all new/downloaded transactions until approved.... that way I know if there's something incorrect in my account. 2. Auto add bill payments/reminders to the upcoming transactions list... and 3. Split transactions.

    Thanks,
    PokerDude

I just started using Quicken Online and I really enjoy the simplicity of the software. I really like the Budgeting Feature and how it shows the available balance each category you created a budget for. What I would love to see added to the Budgeting Feature is some option where you can get an email or SMS text message alert warning you that you are almost at your budget. A feature that would allow for you to be alerted when you have $20,$30, $50, or any other specific dollar amount left before you reach your budget in a specific category.

What I really need is a weekly budget planner. We get paid weekly and need to split our bills up among those weeks while still tracking how we're doing through out the month. Nobody seems to have this feature and I sure could use it. I don't want to stress anymore about "what gets paid when?" in each pay period.
I also want to be able to have a couple of "saving" sections for vacation, car problems, retirement, etc. where money is automatically paid to those accounts like a bill.
Thank you. I'm so ready to stop stressing!

I love that you've added a budget feature. Just what I needed.

I have used it, but not all done yet with everything I want to track and not sure there is a total of all the categories anywhere. Is there?

Also, since I track expenses from paycheck to paycheck and they come to me on the 3rd Weds of each month, is there anyway to set the dates differently than month of ....?

    Thanks

Hello Kathyn. I did post earlier but haven't gotten any replies or suggestions via this forum. My question is can the dates for the budget be flexible. ie, my paycheck comes once a month last Weds of the month. I'd like to track expenses from last Weds to last Weds. Any help?

I would like to see the Budget Tracker count all items that are listed in Upcoming transactions. I just returned from a vacation and it is taking more than four days for my bank to clear the transactions. The budget tracker is useless in this instance, I still had to calculate my budget using good old math. Can QoL adjust this? The purpose of a budget tracker should allow me to see all transactions I have entered in either manually or d/l from bank statements.

    Hello,

I would like to create my own budget categories or use multiple budget items (for example we have two mortgages).

Is this possible? If so how do I do it?

    Thanks for the help.

I love the budgeting feature, however I find it does not work very well for many things that I do not purchase on a regular basis. For example, I usually travel 2-3 times per year. Tracking these expenses on a monthly basis is basically useless. It will show zero for every month and then on a month I travel would be four times larger than my budget. There are countless other examples, like electronics, media (which I often wait to go onsale so purchase only a few times a year), etc ect.

Simply letting the user change the time scale from a month to, let's say, a year, would make the budget feature shine. Making it a custom time scale would be even better, fixing the problems of those trying to balance a mid-month paycheck.

    Please Quicken, add this feature!
