http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/01/15/macworld-ars-quicken-no-more

This is the only article I have seen yet about the next version of Quicken for Mac. Apparently, a totally re-written but nor feature complete (to Quicken 2007 Mac).

I'm not at Macworld- I hope someone that cares is and we see more about it.

how pretty. so what. will the new one allow you to:
-edit multiple transactions so you can edit a month's worth of downloaded bandk and credit card statements?
-sort by more than date?
-use more keyboard and less mouse?
-find/replace multiple transactions?

in other words - to do what the windows version has done for years?

quicken is the only drawback i've found for switching to mac, but it's a huge one - especially now while i'm doing my taxes. if there is any other $ software for mace that can import a .qif and do the above, i'll buy it.

it may be limited but I think it's a step in the right direction. At least it will be a coaco app that will allow them to utilize the latest features of OSX. I would rather them start over from the ground up then keep putting out dissapointing releases year after year.

One encouraging note: I now see that Wachovia Bank's website has the option to download files in a format listed as Quicken Mac 2009. Makes me think something's changing.

So when is this new Quicken for Mac coming out. I have to say that the only complaint I have with my Mac currently is the Quicken for Mac 2007, which wasn't as well laid out as Quicken 2006 (Windows). Is there a Beta Version we can at least see or play with? I have been on the list for quite some time and still no word.

Living in UK and a windows user between 1995 and 2006 when I switched to Mac we have had Quicken removed from the UK market. I wonder if Q for Mac 2008 will be currency-open and with certain modifications be usable in UK. I really miss the usability of the windows version but would be more than happy to use a cut down version on my Mac. No way will I ever revert to PC and though I tried running Quicken via Parallels it didn't seem right. I have been using Moneydance for the last year but dream of Quicken still!

I too am a new Mac owner. I converted from Windows recently only after I saw that a friend had Quicken and the software had a cash forecasting function. Little did I know that the cash forecasting function does not provide accurate figures. I relied heavily on Microsoft Money's Cash Flow functionality. It carried me through some tough financial times. Quicken's cash flow should always show the same lowest dollar amount no matter what time period you are looking at but that is not the case.

My question is will the new version of Quicken for Mac be able to accurately forecast cash flow? I have signed up for the beta program several times but have heard nothing. I currently use Microsoft Money through a trial of VM Fusion and that is just not working for me because it is much too slow and inconvenient. If anyone has information regarding the new beta and cash flow, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it. Thanks!

I also am a recent Mac convert (after tolerating a year of misery with MS Vista). Due to the lack of viable options to Quicken/Windows, I opted to install Fusion and run my Windows version of Quicken until a decent Mac version came out.

Financial Life for Mac does *not* look like it is going to the the product I was hoping for based on what I've read (though I'd love to be wrong about this), so I've resigned myself to continuing to use Quicken/Windows in Fusion.

It surprised me to hear that anyone mentions performance problems with Fusion. Perhaps it's because they are running Vista rather than XP on top of Fusion, or perhaps they didn't install VMware Tools(?). I run XP in Fusion on my iMac and it is *much* faster than my Vista laptop was running natively. In fact, the only time I could perceive any delay running Quicken/Windows in XP/Fusion was when it wrote data to disk -- maybe a 1/2-sec delay. But no perceivable screen/cursor/typing delays. I was very impressed.

Currently, Quicken is the only Windows app I need, so I's like to replace it with a Mac version and make Fusion unnecessary. But until a decent Mac product comes along, I'm satisfied with Quicken/Windows under XP/Fusion.

Regarding the cash flow forecasting, I assume that is a Quicken/Mac problem(?). I use that feature in Quicken/Windows religiously and it works exactly as I expect.

The Mac is still crying out for a leader in the financial space. iBank 3 is probably the strongest candidate currently, and that isn't saying much.

I have high hopes for Financial Life for Mac

Any more news on when this will ship??? I have been considering running Windows on my Intel Mac just so that I can use a decent version of Quicken. (I just feel so hamstrung by Quicken 2007 for Mac.) But then I realized I would have to go online in Windows to download transactions etc. and I am totally afraid of getting Windows viruses!

Please Intuit, just ship Quicken Financial Life for Mac ASAP!

Confused by what I am reading here- no bill pay? No file import/conversion? Product was going to be out in the fall-now winter? Is this really worth waiting for -- what other Mac ready products out there that allow download from banks and bill pay?

This is really sad. Mac is taking over the marketplace and Intuit still can't prioritize. Let's go, folks. The time has come (actually, it came a long time ago). Mac users need a reliable and state of the art financial application. If you don't take leadership, another company will.

I signed up for the beta and have received nothing... not even a status update. How long must we wait and will the wait even be worth it?

Nothing good can come from a premature product release. I am expecting a compelling re-tooled Quicken Mac that functions as well as Quicken Mac 2006 at the minimum. I also expect the Quicken 2008 will require subsequent patches based on feedback from the marketplace. If Quicken 2008 is widely adopted as the result of end-user reviews -- I would expect later versions would become more full featured. From the point of view of credibility -- a buggy release of Quicken 2008 does nobody any good.

    Quicken Mac 200x -- What's in a name?

"Quicken Financial Life for Mac", kinda suggests that Quicken may be committed enough to the Mac to want to develop a platform that might allow Quicken to eventually provide their wider product line to the Mac community.

As a computer worker -- I know NT, W2000, XP, Vista and Mac OS v7 to 10.5.4. As a Mac user (by choice) I know that Leopard represents the most satisfying user experience created (to this point). I don't know anyone (familiar with both XP, Vista and Leopard) who would argue otherwise.

As a Quicken for Mac 2006 user that has been waiting for almost two years to upgrade -- I don't care if the name of the product is Q2008 or QLFM v1 -- so long as it delivers consistent with the Leopard experience.

If Quicken delivered an obviously well-mannered reasonably well-thought-out QFLM that completely honored your existing Quicken data and online banking experience -- what would such a product be worth to you?

It would be worth hundreds of dollars to me. But right now. the current Mac version of Quicken(2007)has a lot of problems (which are costing me time and money). So, anything would be an improvement.

I'd give anything if they would just take the Windows version, make whatever code changes necessary to make it compile, then compile for Mac. While I think a version that takes advantage of all the cool services available in Leopard is great, the Windows version that I used 7 years ago had everything I needed. The Mac version is still a few years behind that version. So whatever it takes... just get us Mac users a working version that has AT LEAST the same features that the Windows users have.

I.e. I use the calendar heavily. I'm still waiting for the Mac version to have a forecasting graph that works like the Windows version. Also, the ability to "skip" a scheduled transaction from the calendar by hitting a "skip" button. The mac version only has "Pay" or "delete". If you hit delete it deletes ALL of them forever into the future. So you have to "pay" the transaction first, then delete the transaction. This opens a HUGE door for human error.

These are the VERY simple code changes that I'm wanting. This isn't rocket science. The windows team just needs to share with the mac team. It's almost like it's two different companies right now.

    That's my rant for now....

    -Tom

PS. Has ANYONE actually been accepted into the beta program? Or is that just a way to string us a long? I've applied dozens of times and I work in software release management. I know how to beta test.

I have not been ask to test the beta. I did the neat reciepts program and was working with neat reciepts and reciept wallet to see what works best. I was hoping to take it to fruition with Quicken, but so far nothing to report. What gives. I know freeware that has developed beyond Quicken with folks working on it once a week.
