I’m happy to report that the migration to the new portfolio system is complete. This new system applies to Quicken Windows 2006, 2007 and 2008.
If you want more information about this transition, or if you are experiencing any issues with the new portfolio, please post them in the thread here. This will keep all of the issues in one place, which means we can gather and fix them a lot sooner--
Thanks--
Quicken Kathryn

Downloading quotes is working well. No missing data. However my porfolio upload is not working.
Error message is " database in read only mode, try later". As of 8/28 7:00 pm Arizona, error continues. No porfolio online.

I guess that explains why the downloaded prices for GFAFX have been inconsistent and do not match the prices from Yahoo. Any idea when this will be fixed?
The downloaded price (as of 8/28) for GFAFX 8/27 is 23.59. When I downloaded my transactions on 8/27, GFAFX was near $30.
Yahoo finance shows GFAFX closed at 30.52 on 8/27.

Here is a workaround until Quicken gets its quotes server working correctly.
One step update your accounts, but uncheck "Download quotes, asset classes, headlines, etc".
Then download NetStock...a freeware program. Set up your stock/mutual fund symbols (one time only). Click on FILE > Quicken export. Save your file to the C: root folder. The file name is prices.txt.
In Quicken, open the Portfolio view. Click on FILE>IMPORT> IMPORT PRICES. Enter the name of the file as C:prices.txt. Quicken will import all your prices for the day.
After the first time, it takes about a minute to do and is very easy.
I will continue to do this until I am satisfied that the quotes server for historic prices has been fixed COMPLETELY!

This relates to Quicken 2009 and has been reported by others -- historical prices for 8/22 and 8/25-27 are completely scrambled. For example, prices history of Astrazeneca PLC appears in Quicken as follows:
Only the closing prices for 8/21 and 8/28 are correct.
This problem affects not just a few securities, but almost 100% of several hundred stocks. As a result, portfolio totals show wild and irrational swings.
Deleting the incorrect prices does no good as the incorrect numbers are filled in again when the next update is performed. It appears that Quicken's (Iverson's?) historical price data for the indicated dates has become corrupted.

The old system wasn't workable, and not maintainable, it worked, but for how long? Letting it keep running was an option, but at some point a switch needed to be made, if not this year, next Jan, or spring, how many problems between now and then?
We are in a much better position today than we were 3 months ago, I know it doesn't feel like it, but we have a large team working on these issues and are ironing them out.
As a quicken customer myself I would much rather have a newer system with a team in place constantly improving it, that what we had before.

I think that was back when we had the ActiveX portfolio that was actually the quicken desktop portfolio ported to the website, but you could only use it in Internet Explorer.

Shame on Quicken. Now we know it will be months before we can expect them to get their act together. And who can tell what we will get.
It is just so bizarre how they could disable a working site (despite what they are saying). It was working at the time and serving their customers well. THEY DID THIS WITH NO WARNING AND NO REQUEST FOR CUSTOMER INPUT. It is so arrogant of them I can't guess what they were thinking.
They did this and put out a crippled replacement that is useless. They purposely disabled the working site and now they ask us to be patient.
They were clueless as to what they were doing and really did think they were putting out a good product. They obviously had no idea as to what was working and what wasn't working for their customers.
And now they are saying that they know what's best for us? Just be patient while waiting for them to figure that out.
TO QUICKEN I ASK "WHAT DO YOU EXPECT US TO DO WHILE PATIENTLY WAITING?"
Lets face it--we have aligned ourselves for years with a company that has no conscious feeling of responsibility towards their customers. They have done nothing to warrant any further support.
At this time what they are doing is frantically trying to clean up the glitches they created while at the same time they are hanging tough saying they still know what's best for us.
After this display of corporate ineptness and total disregard for their customers how could any of us ever consider using any of their services or software.
If there is any disagreement with this assessment I would appreciate your feedback, Quicken personnel included.
AND TO QUICKEN I AGAIN ASK WHAT IT IS YOU EXPECT US TO DO WHILE PATIENTLY WAITING FOR WHAT YOU TOOK AWAY?
If we had that kind of time to wait we wouldn't need your services would we.

This is a reply to post #134 where Jim says "We are in a much better position today than we were 3 months ago, I know it doesn't feel like it, but we have a large team working on these issues and are ironing them out. Jim, I know you are sincere in saying this and that you are trying to be helpful. First I want to thank you for trying to help, but you and the Quicken management have no idea how frustrating it is to deal with a company that has absolutely no understanding of the damage you are doing to your customers. It is obvious that you do not manage your own investing. There are probably thousands of quicken users who do. Not a single one of us has the slightest interest in replacing a quotation service that is flawed but useful as Quicken was a few weeks ago with a new service that is TOTALLY USELESS for investors with a promise that it will be wonderful in a month or two. Even if we believed you (which we do not, based on years of arrogant disregard for customers), there is still absolutely no way that a serious investor can stomach this. These remarks are not aimed at you but rather a plea that you will try to understand what our real problem is and try to convey that to your management.
Never, never, never do this again. We have said this for years. Investors who manage their own protfolios rely on quality stock price information. They do not give a darn about what you think we need or want. Listen to your customers. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER change a product or service without beta testing it. Does your management understand the concept of beta testing?

With this method, I don't see why I will ever need to upgrade again. Threatening me with cutting off stock quote updates is the only reason I have ever updated to newer Quickens!

This is well said and I agree with you totally. They should have made sure the product was working before they disabled the old one. This close to the end of thee year and with the market flucuating like it is, we need to be able to keep up with our investments quickly and closely which I did well with the old system.
I agree with you SHAME ON YOU, QUICIEN.

Didn't have an issue till I upgraded to 2009. Given the degree of this thread and the fact that Quicken now shows my Fidelity account has a loss 30 times it's value it would be nice if someone from Quicken could post an update on progress in fixing this issue. I can always go online to Fidelity in Firefox and get the right answer.
That's not what I paid $69.00 for.
I may just dispute that charge if this is not straighten out shortly. The comment on beta testing is right on point when you are dealing with people's money matters.

To Quicken Jim and other Intuit employees--I understand that you want to be a good corporate citizen and are trying to help but I strongly suggest you stop telling us how great the new version is or will be. IT IS A DISASTER FOR YOUR USERS.
Like many others my price history file is garbage since 8/21. I deleted prices for 10 of my securities and reran the quotes download. The price history was again populated with garbage.
I cannot understand how it takes Intuit so long to figure this out. Look at the thread--the problem was reported a week ago. Quicken Jim, please escalate this problem.

My problem symbol is SDS, should be Proshares, not some strange index. If there is a way to qualify it with an exchange or type of security, I haven't found it.

Jim - you KNEW 2009 didn't work when you automatically sent me the message yesterday inviting me to upgrade 2008 to 2009. I bit - and did so and now I can't get correct historical prices. Good think I kept the 2008 disk and reinstalled it. Now I can't get through to customer service and no one replies to my emails. So I guess I just have to cancel the credit card charge as no one will reply to me from Quicken. Why would you sell a defective product, rather than hold on to it till the obvious bug was fixed???

Most of my downloaded prices are incorrect for the days 25 - 28 August. What is wrong and how can I fix it? Also, I used to link to Yahoo Quotes on the internet but now I go to the lame Quicken one - which is unacceptable.

"Is true. Yes you can delete multiple entries for a stock - but you have to do for each stock one at a time or the whole file."
Deleting multiple prices at once for a single security is considerably different and faster than being limited to deleting one price at a time ... as the comment I replied to said.
And if you do whole file then you lose your bond historical prices, which do not get automatically rebuilt.
And there is also a way to recover prices for selected securities whose historical prices are not available thru Quicken download, if you decide to delete the QPH file.
A waste of time anyway as the next time you do a download all of the bogus historical prices come back anyway!
Then why bring up the subject of the ease of deleting quotes in this context?
How to ask a question.

Kathryn, why don't you give us a message that it realy isn't complete. There are gross errors in it and please give us a work-around and an idea of when we may be able to download correctly. It is grosly negligent of Quicken to put up what is supposed to be an upgrad without first making sure it will work. In the financial world accuracy in you daiily quotes are most important. Doesn't Quicken know this?

Hi All,
I want to give you a status update on where we are at with the historical quotes issues.
The engineering team has determined the problem is not in the core application. We are now checking the databases and working with our data feeds providers to find the root cause. The team is aggressivly working on this and considers it to be a high priority issue to get resolved.
As I learn more I will update you. Please remember that sometimes you will get incorrect values and other times you will get correct values. This is one of the reasons it has been really hard in determining the root cause. I apologize for the difficulties it has given to many of you.

Just want to put in my daily harangue on this. I just do not even pay much attention to the shown prices anymore. Everytime I open a new comment, I see the quote, "I'm happy to report that the migration to the new portfolio system is complete."
It is difficult to believe anyone who has anything to do with Quicken could feel that way today.
I do not have access to the suggestions Quicken gets, but I would bet no one has ever said they would trade one-page view of their portfolios for any bell or whistle available on any other portfolio tracker. This is the one feature that made Quicken unique. There are any number of one-at-a-time portfolio trackers out there and because of other Quicken problems in the past, I would have moved to one of them long ago had it not been for the one-page multiple portfolios available in Quicken. Nothing to keep me here now.
As I have said before, and will continue to say, my experience with Quicken, since Quicken 2000, is that not one improvement has actually improved the product for me.
It is hard to believe that Quicken does not understand that this fiasco is worse than any product they have had in the last 10 years (or more according to those who have been with Quicken that long.) There comes a time when you have to admit defeat. The sooner Quicken gets to the point, the better.
