Hello All,

I’m happy to report that the migration to the new portfolio system is complete.  This new system applies to Quicken Windows 2006, 2007 and 2008.

If you want more information about this transition, or if you are experiencing any issues with the new portfolio, please post them in the thread here.  This will keep all of the issues in one place, which means we can gather and fix them a lot sooner--

Thanks--

Quicken Kathryn

I;m having the same problem with Ver 2006. When I update I get strange results for value changes for the day??? I was thinking about upgrading this year, but if this isn't fixed soon, I maybe upgrading to another program and stop using Quicken that I have been using the last 20+ years...

Seems like Quicken is going in the wrong direction, getting worse with every update..

Price updates I downloaded contained incorrect closing prices on my computer for period starting 8/21 and roughly 8/27. I have had to manually delete these from each security's price history.

Has this problem now been resolved?

    thanks.

Can't you all just go back to the way it was until the issue is resolved?

I feel it is unfair for us to be subjected to this uncertainty and loss of data.

As a quicken customer myself I would much rather have a newer system with a team in place constantly improving it, that what we had before.
Now we know where the real problem lies. Since I have not received a response to post #137 (my first comment to Jim's #134) let me try again. How can a newer system that is more corrupted than the old system be better? Because the customers who have not jumped ship can now help Quicken find where the bugs are. All we are asking is to bring back what we had before so that serious investors can concentrate on INVESTING while Quicken's team of expert engineers can concentrate on beta testing. From the comments in this thread, there are many people willing to help. Beta testing should of course start in house. Set up paper portfolios with 100 stocks picked at random and compare them in the old and new versions of Quicken. If you get different results, fix the problem before you release the new version. When you think you have found all the bugs, then invite volunteers to do further testing. Do not add fancy bells and whistles until you get the stock prices correct and get feedback from the users as to what features they want added and what if anything they are willing to give up that worked in the old system.

Why do serious investors want to see all their portfolios on one page and have uncorrupted current and historical data? Because we have a lot of money at stake and we want to monitor what is happening to it. It is hard to understand how or why the Quicken management does not understand this, but Jim's comment is a clue. It is the "we know best" mentality. We need to start pressing the top brass at Quicken to admit that they made a terrible mistake and bring back the old version of quicken.com until the new version is ready for release.

To dwsmit3: I suspect the whole Quicken community agrees with this.

But when you re-read the Quicken comments IT BECOMES CLEAR THAT THEY CANNOT OR WILL NOT REVIVE THE OLD SITE. If that was their intention they would have told us by now.

They have their own agenda which may be as simple as reducing the costs associated with maintenance and providing the service.

There is also the compelling pressure of providing "something new & better" to justify new editions & services. Some of us can attest to the traumatic and often disappointing experience with their new editions of Quicken and for many of us the cost was never justified.

Maybe Quicken has become a victim of their own success. Certainly their was little that could be done to improve their old site. Same for their software going back to at least 2003.

So--as they couldn't improve it they broke it.

Eventually they will come out with a sophomoric, weakened site. From that they have something they can improve little by little over the years. Maybe in 10 years they will be back to where they were 3 weeks ago.

I know that sounds cynical but this whole episode is just so bizzare it defies understanding.

My suggestion to Quicken to get around this marketing problem would be to package their best edition of the Quicken software, make it good for 2 or 3 years and then charge an annual subsctiption to keep using their service with periodic upgrades which we could accept or decline.

This is not our first run in with Quicken therefore it doesn't sound correct to say they don't understand what they are doing. I think they know exactly what they are doing. They're just not telling us.

Sadly I feel they have written us off and they are moving on. It is now up to us to decide if we want to move on with them or go elsewhere.

Version is actually 2009, but no option to choose that version. Does that say something about whether 2009 was ready to foist on the public?

Dale: The suggestion to delete historical prices and download again is absolutely cruel. Until it is fixed for good, hours of work get eliminated with each erroneous download. The error occurs even for securities whose symbols have been removed! You should be specifically telling people not to do anything until you have it fixed.

Quicken will no longer give you erroneous prices for those money market accounts, but you will continue to receive transactions downloaded from your financial institution that includes your money market accounts.
That works in 2008 not in 2009. Quicken 2009 has not updated prices for funds held at my financial institution since installation. (It does appear to work fine for transactions) Quicken 2008 is still working perfectly.

I just designed a new economical 8-passenger vehicle with AC, TV, GPS,talking dash, bluetooth connectivity, and so many bells and whistles, you will never be able to use them all. It does not have an engine nor does it have wheels. While it will not take you anyplace, it will save you a lot of money. I think I will call it the Quicken.

I emailed Brad Smith (Intuit CEO) to alert him to all the problems with the new portfolio.
I figured that upper management could put pressure to correct the problems and revert back to the old portfolio where we could not.

I received this response on Friday:

    ----------------------------------------------
    Harold,

I have copied our business leader (Todd Stanley) for Quicken so he and his team can incorporate your feedback into helping us get better.

Thanks for the e-mail and support.

    Brad

Todd Stanley is Vice President & GM of Quicken.
We will see if it it helps.

So I got an idea to turn this lemon into lemonade by shorting INTU. From the comments in this forum it looks like there will be a loss of long time customers and that Quicken 2009 is badly broken. Both issues should hurt revenue for the next quarter. But, alas, when I skimmed through the INTU 10k it looks like Quicken falls into the "Other Businesses" category. Altogether the Others make up less than 10% of revenue. I doubt that is enough to make much difference.

I am using Quicken 2006 and have the quotes problem. I have deleted and downloaded - no good. I have corrected and downloaded - no good. I find it totally unbelievable that such a major screwup could occur near the end of the fiscal quarter when a lot of us are due to produce reports for our clients. If the development team had waited just a couple of weeks, the end of quarter would have passed and more time would have been available for corrections. However, complaining about it does not correct the problem. I need reliable updating of quotes. Thank you

I can neither correct nor delete. It has corrupted my data back to 8/21. I was told when i finally got someone on the line that the update was read only. I wonder how we will corrrect these if and when they get this fixed.

Most of my mutual fund quotes were downloaded incorrectly from 8/25 through 8/28. Prices went up by more than 10 times of real prices. It came down to normal prices on 8/29.
What was going on??? How can these quotes be corrected?

Here is some very interesting reading.

I found this searching the web today.  It's a press release from 2000 about the unveiling of quicken.com.

What's sad, while reading this article, is that they actually accomplished what they wanted to do with quicken.com back in 2000.

Now, they are back to the stone age with multitudes of problems.  Looks like their management has lost focus on what consumers want and need.

Hey Quicken Jim, Kathryn, et al...reread this press release.  Then do as you did then!

Mountain View, Calif. - April 19, 2000 - In response to growing consumer demand for comprehensive, secure and simple financial management capabilities, Intuit's (NASDAQ: INTU) leading e-finance site Quicken.com (www.quicken.com) today announced MyFinances. MyFinances is a comprehensive personalized financial dashboard, which not only allows consumers to consolidate their personalized data, their investment portfolio, banking and credit card account data and bills, but also enables users to understand their data with portfolio-specific news, alerts and more on a single Web page. In conjunction with this news, Quicken.com said MyFinances provides consumers access to greater than 40% of U.S. commercial checking and savings accounts, 50% of credit card accounts, 80% of online brokerage accounts and a variety of billers.

In addition, Quicken.com launched several enhanced Web features, including a redesigned portfolio, a comprehensive Mutual Fund Evaluator and My Last Five Quotes- all designed with the same focus on helping consumers save time and effort in managing their finances. Along with MyFinances, the new Quicken.com features accomplish this goal in three key ways. First, through personalization, consumers can effortlessly get right to their relevant information without wading through excessive information. Second, through consolidation of their finances, consumers can see an overview of their financial picture all in one place and take action on key tasks without having to bounce all over the Web. And finally, step-by-step tools help consumers simplify complex tasks, such as understanding whether to buy, hold or sell an investment - even considering tax implications. The result: consumers can make confident decisions quickly and easily.

"Research shows that a majority our of our customers have relationships with over thirteen financial institutions and are looking for the time savings and convenience of managing all of their finances from a single location," said Roy Rosin, Director of Marketing, Quicken.com. "MyFinances helps people efficiently see how they are doing on their bank account balances or investments, what's moving their stocks or the market, and what items - such as bills coming due - they need to take action on to stay up-to-date. Additionally, compared to other sites, MyFinances goes beyond aggregation by providing a launch pad into Quicken.com's deep tools that help consumers cut through the clutter and make most of their financial lives."

Noting that online bill payments are expected to increase from less than 1% today to over 25% in 2004 according to Gartner Group, Rosin added that Quicken.com will be executing a strategy for expanding beyond MyFinances in coming months.

"We are committed to continuously enhancing Quicken.com to meet consumers' growing need to manage finances faster and more efficiently," said Rosin. "MyFinances is the foundation on which we will continue to offer consumers the benefits of consolidating their finances."

The strategy will include integrating Quicken software with Quicken.com, giving Quicken users anytime anywhere access to their finances increased account consolidation and connectivity covering more brokerages, banks, credit cards, 401(k) providers, and billers; and integration providing consumers a comprehensive, more accurate and informed view of their financial lives.

    Bold type added for emphasis!

Completing your user profile to include the Quicken version/year and Windows operating system helps others troubleshoot your problem.

You should only floss the teeth you want to keep!

Currently using Quicken 2009 Rental Property Manager R5.

Railing against Intuit as a company is likely to have as much effect as pushing on a rope, spinning a wheel. The company is vastly proud of being selected as the most admired software company in 2007 by Fortune magazine. See:

    http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/mostadmired/2007/snapshots/10960.html

    Rank among Computer Software: 1
    Address: 2700 Coast Avenue
    Mountain View, CA, 94043
    Phone: 650-944-6000

    Most Admired Companies

Eight key attributes of reputation/Industry rank
    Innovation/2
    People management/1
    Use of corporate assets/1
    Social responsibility/1
    Quality of management/1
    Financial soundness/4
    Long-term investment/2
    Quality of products/services/1

[Note that "Customer Centric attitude" is not an attribute used by Fortune in ranking these companies].

My apologies in raising this community's blood pressure but those are the facts. Prior to being appointed CEO in January this year, Brad Smith ran the Quicken group within Intuit so I'm sure he's glad not to have to deal directly with these problems. He might be able to fire his successor, though.

Perhaps a flood of calls to him at 650-944-6000 and e-mails, coupled with a flag waving march past of disgruntled users will encourage more resources to be put on this problem.

Amen, i say. I use 2006 and thought that maybe an update to 2009 is in order, but when my incoming price changes with the daily percent in my portfolio was off by tens of thousands of dollars, I think not.

At first, I thought it was my large sized transaction portfolio, I think I will sit tight. I have been using Quicken since 1994 but it may be time to look at Microsoft Money.

The only way to resolve the download error(s) in
Quicken 2009 is to go back to Quicken 2008 and retrieve the datafile (s) that was saved prior to installation of Quicken 2009.

Quicken should do a better job of quality control.
This is my worse upgrade experience since 1991.

Yes, "selling" upgrade 2009 with major errors in the software is a disgrace for Intuit and Quicken.
Even a beta edition should have a reasonable level of quality control checking before it is released. All 2008 users are getting messages to upgrade to 2009. Don't do it until Quicken "gets its act together". I wasted over two hours, removing Quicken 2009 Premier and reinstalling Quicken 2008. Now my work is correct and my beginning of year balances, etc. are correct.

This post is about: Quicken Online
I own Quicken 2001 Deluxe, Quicken 2004 and Quicken 2007. I have never used any of the software. I only bought it to be able to continue using the online portfolio. I have been using it for years to track our brokerage and IRA accounts. The ease of being able to see all of your stocks on one page and the gain or loss for the day and overall was really unique! I also have a portfolio at Yahoo for our Canadian stocks so I can watch them trading during the day. I went to Yahoo and made new portfolios for all our accounts there. Then I decided to put all our stocks in one portfolio. It does limit you to 200 entries per portfolio and there are 16 column choices. I put all our stocks in alphabetical order which allows you to see all the same stocks together in the different accounts. Also there is a column you can add for notes. I added it to the end of the row and put the name of the brokerage firm so we could see which account the stock is in. Now we can see all our stocks on one page and the gain and loss for the day and overall. I had started trying to do one portfolio for all our stocks at Google, but it was harder for me to do and I did not like the look as well. The only green they use on the page is for the price change, but all your losses show up in red. Not a pretty site! Yahoo shows all your gains in green! They also show all the recent news at the bottom of the page. Best of all Yahoo is free and unless Quicken can give us back our page I probably want be buying any more of their software. Hope this helps someone else!

I didn't think you had to buy their software to use the Quicken.com. There are so many free sites out there that if that is all I was doing I would never buy Quicken. I like Quicken because I can do the same thing with tracking daily gains or losses but I don't have to broadcast my portfolio onto the internet. This HISTORY thing has me really upset. This is not the first time they have screwed it up. Quicken is supposed to be the specialists in this area and I am tired of their mess ups.

Hi All, I want to give you a status update on where we are at with the historical quotes issues. The engineering team has determined the problem is not in the core application. We are now checking the databases and working with our data feeds providers to find the root cause. The team is aggressivly working on this and considers it to be a high priority issue to get resolved. As I learn more I will update you. Please remember that sometimes you will get incorrect values and other times you will get correct values. This is one of the reasons it has been really hard in determining the root cause. I apologize for the difficulties it has given to many of you. Dale
    Relates to Quicken 2009:

Dale, some more information that may be helpful in tracking down the problem and coming to a resolution:

Spent some time experimenting with updates last night and results were as follows:

    1. Downloading historical quotes does not replace an incorrect price in the price history - i.e., if, for example, there is an incorrect price for 8/22 in the QPH file, re-downloading correct historical prices will not replace the incorrect price.

    2. Deleted incorrect price history for 8/22 and 8/25-28, then downloaded historical prices for month -- correct price history was filled in for empty information. Tried this for several securities with same results with one exception in my test set, namely, AT&T, which twice filled in missing price history data with incorrect information. AT&T finally updated with correct historical data when I completely rebuilt my QPH file, as described below.

    3. However, if you delete incorrect price history and download quotes before downloading historical prices, then missing price history data is filled with incorrect information. (This suggests that "download quotes" is doing more than just providing the most recent prices and that something in the process may be corrupting the QPH file.)

    4. The foregoing steps for correcting the corrupted price history data are problematical for users who have large portfolios with several hundred separate securities. (It took me almost two hours to delete the incorrect price histories just for my stocks beginning with "A", since you have to go one by one into each stock's price history to delete the corrupt data.) Accordingly, I have rebuilt my QPH file in the following manner (perhaps another user can suggest an easier method - is there any way to directly manipulate the QPH file, as you could if it had an Excel or other spreadsheet file structure?):

    a. using QPH Processor (a free utility which you can find by searching that title in these Forums), I extracted the 8/29 prices for all securities, which are correct, to a .cvs file;

    b. renamed existing QPH file by changing extension to .old (saves the data and can be restored by changing extension back to .qph);

    c. restarted Quicken which creates new, blank QPH file;

    d. imported the 8/29 prices using the .cvs file created in step a.;

    e. downloaded historical prices for the month;

    f. checked my portfolio, and when everything appeared to have downloaded properly (even AT&T now had the correct price history information for 8/22 and 8/25-28), I downloaded historical prices for the past 2 years. Again, all seems to have downloaded properly.

    5. There is one significant problem with the rebuilt QPH file - price histories for bonds and investments that aren't publicly traded are missing. These are usually updated from your broker's records. For these holdings, I had to edit the price histories to provide the 8/29 prices, but all the prior data is missing. Does anyone know a way to extract the price histories for bonds and non-publicly traded investments from the old QPH file and import them into the rebuilt file?

    6. I now have a rebuilt price history file with the correct data for 8/22 and 8/25-28, but with missing information for bonds and non-publicly traded investments, and I can view real results in my various accounts and portfolio as a whole for those dates. But what will happen when I download quotes at the end of the day on Tuesday? I will have my fingers crossed and hope that all the work I did will not be undone by another corrupt download. Rest assured that I intend to back up my QPH file before I hit the "download quotes" button, and from now on I will make a backup of the QPH file at the end of each day.
