I’m happy to report that the migration to the new portfolio system is complete. This new system applies to Quicken Windows 2006, 2007 and 2008.
If you want more information about this transition, or if you are experiencing any issues with the new portfolio, please post them in the thread here. This will keep all of the issues in one place, which means we can gather and fix them a lot sooner--
Thanks--
Quicken Kathryn

I emailed Brad Smith (Intuit CEO) to alert him to all the problems with the new portfolio.
I figured that upper management could put pressure to correct the problems and revert back to the old portfolio where we could not. I received this response on Friday: ----------------------------------------------
Harold, I have copied our business leader (Todd Stanley) for Quicken so he and his team can incorporate your feedback into helping us get better. Thanks for the e-mail and support. Brad
----------------------------------------- Todd Stanley is Vice President & GM of Quicken.
We will see if it it helps. Harold
Last year, when all the news and quotes were broken, I had also mailed all the C-level execs and all that happened was a received a phone call from a normal tech support person....

How would you feel if this was your online banking application, or even your on-screen TV cable guide ?
Haha! My local newspaper just did this to it's Sunday TV section, rendering is virtually useless by removing the information in their TV listings which are not available elsewhere.
I think in this day and age of cutbacks and cost savings, the people who are making these decisions just do not have an awareness of what makes their product superior or better than other offerings. The end result is that they remove those qualities, which are probably the most expensive to maintain, and thus demean their product and thereby reduce its attractiveness to consumers. They then lose customers which, in turn, forces further cutbacks until there is nothing left.
If I had a product such as Quicken which had a feature that no other such service offered, that is the last feature I would want to get rid of.
Quicken is now no different from any other stock tracking and research program, many of which are absolutely free to use. Why should I continue to purchase Quicken to get what I can get elsewhere for free?
Incidentally, the local newspaper some time ago, cut back on stock market coverage in which they printed the closing quotes from most actively traded stocks, to hardly any. Sure that information is available elsewhere, but seldom can you get it all in one spot in such and a comprehensive view. I suspect when they cut back on coverage of local sports, I will just drop my subscription there, too.

q.lurker wrote: You can assign a ticker to a bond in Quicken without any deleterious effects (AFAIK). Use something that makes sense to you. Because of this 'requirement', I have tickers for all my securities - stock, MF, CDs, Bonds, others. For example, my US treasuries are USTa, USTb, etc. I do not have them in my download quotes list. That may become a if I ever get a real security with that ticker. You might also consider something like 'XYZ-5%(Bond)'. Do that before using the QPH File Processor and you should be in business.
I believe you are correct that a ticker is required for the import-prices step.
Thanks. Didn't realize this was possible because I had my bonds correctly identified as such and when security is identified as a bond, the symbol field is grayed-out. However, when I changed security type to "other", I was able to enter a "ticker" for each bond. Now QPH File Processor will extract the historical data for the bonds. As part of rebuilding qph file, I will try extracting historical prices from old qph file, deleting incorrect data, and importing correct csv file back into Quicken. Since there are fewer bonds in my portfolio than stocks, this should be a manageable task.

Mary: I noticed that lack of volume import issue also - with QW2009. Is that what you were running? I know your prior description (the link) worked fully in QW2007.
Hi q.lurker,
Humm, interesting. I am running Q2008 Premier, but the price history file is from Q2009. When I rolled back from Q2009 to Q2008, I thought the easiest way to fill in the blanks in the price data was to rename the Q2009 .qph file to the Q2008 fileset name.
I will have to try swapping out the .qph file to the Q2008 version and see if that makes a difference in the import of the volume data.

Perhaps you realize this and didn't include it. I believe after you have changed the Sec-type to Other and entered a ticker (symbol), you can change the type back to Bond, and the ticker will stay.

This new improved platform has demonstrated in spades this week that it is totally unreliable. The current and historical quotes are still screwed up and now I am showing a one day slip in the quotes. For example Ariel Fund (ARGFX) shows $39.27 for Friday August 29th and $39.11 for Saturday August 30th. This should show $39.27 for Thursday August 29th and $39.11 for Friday August 30th.
Apple shows the same problem. AAPL shows $173.74 for Friday August 29th and $169.53 for Saturday August 30th. This should show $173.74 for Thursday August 29th and $169.53 for Friday August 30th.
I don't think the stock market is open on Saturdays!
This one day slip is true for all 25 of my Mutual Funds and/or stocks.
This Quote problem has got to be fixed or we all will abandon Quicken. I have been a user of Quicken since 1984 and I have never experienced anything like this.

All I get when I try to update my info to quicken.com is "server not available .. try again later". So I have not been able to update my information at all on quicken.com. I tried to change to a new quicken.com userid and that still gives me the same warning. Unfortunately I am finding Quicken upgrades last two years to be very poor and I have used Quicken for many many years.

I am now getting an error from OneStep Update just trying to download quotes & historical prices:
The server is not responding properly. Please try again later.
For historical prices it is saying "the securities are not recognized."

I assume from the comments in this thread that everyone is having the same problem. I will not update any stock data on the Quicken website because of all the corrupted data. Will someone start a new thread with suggestions of how to move from Quicken to better alternatives?

As I mentioned before on this thread, there is no need to move to another product unless you are so fed up you feel like you must.
Download the freeware software NetStock.
Set up NetStock once by adding in your stock and mutual fund symbols.
In NetStock, after it automtically updates prices, FILE > Quicken Export.
This will create a file named prices.csv. Save this file to your C: hard drive.
In Quicken, go to Portfolio view. Then FILE > IMPORT > Import prices. You can only do this from the Portfolio view.
When prompted, enter C:prices.txt and Quicken will enter current day ACCURATE prices into Quicken.
The initial setup takes just a bit of time...after that I can do this in less than a minute!
When doing a One Step Update, uncheck "Download quotes, asset classes, headlines and alerts". Continue leaving this unchecked until Quicken finds a way to download quotes that actually works.

What is Quicken 6? An old DOS version of Quicken?
If you are referring to Quicken 2006, it will work in that version.
What is really interesting is that this also works for "retired" versions Quicken 2005 and earlier.
Quicken disabled download capabilities for those versions, but NetStock will work where Quicken has an "Import prices" feature. That just leaves transaction downloading as the only main feature that has been disabled.
Completing your user profile to include the Quicken version/year and Windows operating system helps others troubleshoot your problem.
You should only floss the teeth you want to keep!
Currently using Quicken 2009 Rental Property Manager R5.

I like Yahoo as well, especially the plotting features. However, you have to load everything manually. Morningstar is a good choice and you can upload info from Quicken on PC, although cumbersome for those of us who use PC versions for automatic update feature from institutions.
Biggest plus to me for Quicken.com was automatic update from Quicken on desktop AND its portfolio view, all on one page! Of course, that has all changed now. The new Quicken.com does seem to have features that will be benefitial once they get them working, like memorizing custom views, incremental updates, correct portfolio value graphs, sort holdings by name option (symbols suck), just to name a few.
My gut tells me though that the new will not be as powerfull as the old and that Intuit Management does not care.
I too am now using broker sites for daily tracking until Quicken.com shapes up or I decide on another method.

Just to be clear: NO quotes are updating. Not mutural funds, or stocks of ANY description.
--------------------------------------
The Quicken Help page says:
"We are in the process of completing the upgrade to the new Quicken.com Investing Center. These current issues are being researched by our Development Team, and a resolution will be provided soon.
Performance data is not downloading for little traded securities such as OTC stocks...."
------------------------------------------
This is NOT correct. NOTHING is updating from the "UPDATE QUOTES" link.Last time this happened, it took a LOT of threats of leaving Quicken an(and many actually doing so) before adequate resources from Quicken were applied to the task.

Thank you for your help. I assume in order to maintain historical prices, you do this daily. What do you do if you happen to be out of town and miss a few days? Is there any way get old quotes?
