I’m happy to report that the migration to the new portfolio system is complete. This new system applies to Quicken Windows 2006, 2007 and 2008.
If you want more information about this transition, or if you are experiencing any issues with the new portfolio, please post them in the thread here. This will keep all of the issues in one place, which means we can gather and fix them a lot sooner--
Thanks--
Quicken Kathryn

While not selected for the beta test for the last 2 years, sounds like things have only gotten worse in the way the test was run.
For several years there was excellent contact with support during the test, and problems were followed up on and one could talk to someone who could find out. Still some problems took up to 3 years to get resolved.
By my last year QK 2006, no one to talk too, not effective notice if a reported problem was solved, and no way to get attention when the problems weren't solved.
I always thought though while invited to apply every year, always reporting problems that needed attention and providing anything needed for them to diagnose the problem, I was dropped as I became too noisy when problems persisted but that is only speculation.

Bill...
I actually had some phone conversations with a Quicken tech support rep regarding a couple of the issues with the Q2009 beta version.
One had to do with getting Harris Bank to actually work with Expresss Web Connect (which it seems to do now, finally...but has been spotty the last two days).
Another had to do with a minor Quicken problem, which they also fixed.
So, in that regard, I found the follow up to be pretty good. At least I knew they were listening and were trying to help. It was little annoying because they would constantly call me at work, and tearing myself away in the middle of a dental patient isn't the best thing to do.
What was perplexing though is, why release Q2009 Release Candidate 1 for 1 day and then pull the "beta plug"? You would think they would want RC1 FULLY tested over a period of time before it was released to the general public. That's what I would have done.
I have previously beta tested for my dental professional software (beta tested for over 8 years with that). It is difficult to compare the two, because we are talking about a Quicken product that retails from $50-110 with a very broad user base, while my dental software is over $5000 with what I would think is a much more limited user base.
Of course, the dental software team was more responsive to my needs, concerns and questions. They implemented a LOT of my ideas from version to version, plus fixed almost all the problems and concerns during the beta test period.
I didn't feel I had the same input with Quicken. I felt that I was just a "bug tester", not really a beta tester. I would give constructive criticism AND suggestions, but I never felt that Quicken really cared about that. It was almost as if, well...here's the 2009 version, take it or leave it...we don't really want or need your input on how this should look, feel or operate. Just tell us if something works or doesn't.
Would I beta test again...yeah, I would. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment...and I do like to see what's new from version to version.
I'm sure Intuit will get almost all the kinks out of Quicken 2009. At least, it seems like they listening to the ticked off users on this forum regarding the two major issues...quotes downloading reliability and the downloaded transaction matching problem. They have seemed to have turned the corner on these two issues (keeping fingers crossed).
Now if they can get quicken.com up and running to full functionality, most of the users can get off their backs for a while...and we can finally get back to the "screen flickering, I can't print, my version has been sunsetted" posts most of us are used to.

"Do you just post on here....or do you read any of the previous posts?"
Quicken quotes and historical prices have indeed improved over the last two days. However: there is still much incorrect historical price data prior to the last two days. I have quotes from all my stocks listed on 9/1/2008 which was Labor Day when the market was closed. There are still grossly wrong historical data in the latter portion of August.

When someone posts the following:
has there been any news out of quicken on fixing the historical downloads problem?
that immediately tells me that someone hasn't read a darned thing on this forum regarding the situation...whether that includes Quicken's support staff's responses in the last few days OR the comments on this thread regarding the problems/fixes encountered.
"Has there been ANY news out of Quicken"...what does that seem like to you? Someone who hasn't taken the time to read at least the last few days of posts on this thread...that now is on post #396 on this topic!
I really felt like replying to "has there been any news out of quicken on fixing the historical downloads problem?", with a big fat "NO, Quicken hasn't said a word"...but that would have been mean!
To me, it's tantamount to asking the question today, did anyone hear who Sen McCain's VP choice is? It's old news already!

I too have some corrupted data from those Historical Quotes that were in error.
1. The 9/1/08 Quote will need to be deleted manually, which I do when I have time.
2. There are also up to 4 days in my case, which are the bad quotes created due to the 4 days history that is downloaded with the daily quotes which was corrupted. In my case it seems to go back to 8/21 and 4 days after that.
On one hand it makes little difference to performance since the days are few.
I will delete them when I get a chance.
I would like to see Quicken offer a Quote Compression utility to automatically remove Quotes from history (e.g leave only 1 per month)

Gmalis you will notice the forums aren't even set up for 2009 yet. You asked why RC1 was dumped out quickly. I surmise Intuit didn't know that MS had no intention of issuing an update this year and they wanted to be there first with the most. That sometimes gets you in trouble. I volunteered the past two years for this beta, I do others for Intuit but so far I have not been successful in getting on this one. Surprisingly I have not problems at all with Vista SP1 and Quicken it runs well. There are some small errors still in there but they aren't critical. We'll keep watching now to see if the quotes and indices keep it on the straight and narrow. Have a good weekend.

I am still getting the following error message for Portfolio Sync on Quicken.com when I run a One Step Update - "Database in read only mode. Try your request again later.". When will the portfolio sync issue be fixed on Quicken.com so that my info there will be up to date and correct? I am using the new Quicken 2009 Premier version. Thanks for any help. Jeff

Kathryn,
IMHO, you are really playing pretty dirty now, and it is NOT appreciated!!.
You close one thread, that you opened in January of 2008, ("Status on Quotes Issues - Update"), when there was a problem then with the quotes sever used at that time, and then send the readers of that thread to this one, that you started on August 21, 2008, where you (?) happily (mis)stated in the OP that everything was hunky dorry or some other propaganda like that.
Now those readers of the other thread get to peruse over 400 posts to your latest thread. WOW!! What a way to keep customers happy!! Are you all pleased with yourselves??
Although this IS supposed to be a user-to user forum, IMHO, when there is an issue of this magnitude, (resulting from the "Promised" solution, that with the new system changes, supposedly to be completed "by around the end of August or so", ending up to be a total disaster [ !!?? ] ), Intuit moderators of these forums, or other Support personnell, owe us frustrated users with at least some kind of progress report on a timely, maybe twice a week (??), basis. Your thoughts are here-by solicited. As are those of other readers.
[Note that I took about a 2 month "sabatical'' in order to catch up with reading 10 books I got behind on. I've finished them, so : I'mmmmmmBAAACCKK !!. And I come back to: "Oh what a mess we're in now Ollie!!?? ]
[Opps! Kind of sorry, maybe? I do count 23 posts, related to what is being changed and how progressing, by Chris, Ben, Jim, & Dale, with the last 9 posts by Dale, all on 9/3/08. Looks to me that ALL 2006,2007,2008 and 2009 Quicken users are impacted. Someone correct me if my opinion, (not fact - ?? ), is wrong please!! ]
PS: Are these FAQs still appropriate with the "NEW SYSTEM" ?? :

Just another point! Reading through all the prior posts, it could possibly be concluded that many Quicken Users have a few $$$ involved with this Change of System Thing, in addition to a lot of frustrating wasted time and suffering. Hopefully there are no Lawyers out there who are users; or, are Class Action Suits out of the picture because of EULA or TOS "agreements"??? /Ron

Thank you for your time and interest.
Wow!!!! You are an optimist!
They have never listened to user input.... PERIOD!
As I have said before.... When I literally spoke to a RLP-A, (Real Live Person in America), about bugs/problems/suggestions... I was told, "We do not need your input. We know how things should be done." - 'click'....dial tone.....
That was in the good ol' 80's.......
Almost two decades later.... nothing's changed.....
Open-source the code Intuit....!!! Let us fix it!
BTW: I got suckered into the QW2009 'Upgrade'.....

aprest:
This is a rant from a long time Quicken user. It's addressed to you, "aprest" because you are the last post in the thread, but it's an open letter (rant) to all the rest of you indignant and officially unhappy campers.
"Because of the impact that this problem is having on our ability to manage our investments regarding buy and sell decisions we are losing money and this could reach the point of the members of this forum getting together in a class action suit!"
First of all grab your End User License Agreement and read it. Your chances for a law suit are none and none leaning heavily to the side of none.
Second, if you use Quicken to manage your investments for anything other than occasional after-the-fact analysis and for a more complete look at your Net Worth, you are ________ (comment withheld by iiimaf so that Kathryn doesn't have to edit his post).
If you actually want to manage your investments, here's a suggestion. Go to your brokerage website where you will get "real-time" quotes and a lot more current stock and market information. Unless you have a really special version of Quicken you will need to go their to place buy/sell orders anyway, so why use Quicken?
The current situation with downloading quotes is affecting ALL OF US and yes, it's a pain in the butt.
Do you think a few hundred or even a few thousand complaints like yours is going to speed up the solution? Do you really think Quicken isn't doing everything humanly possible to fix this situation? Finally, do you want a quick fix or do you want them to fix it?
My suggestion to you and the rest of the "me-to" crowd is to deal with it and move on to something else.
Regardless, I don't think it's too much to ask to get correct quotes. If I had all my investments in one place I would have never bought Quicken. Why are you even using Quicken if you manage your accounts from your broker(s) website(s)? Why don't you quit using it and also go back to your paper checkbook register? I bet if the checkbook wasn't working right you wouldn't be so happy. You probably don't have enough invested to make a diiference whether you get accurate quotes or not.

I use Fidelity Active Trader Pro and Fidelity on-line for buying and selling. However neither of them have the ability to monitor four other accounts outside of Fidelity that my wife and I have. In addition neither Fidelity Active Trader Pro or Fidelity on-line have the capability that Quicken provides in the Investing Center and Report Generation as examples.
Let iimaf rant if he wishes but his attack of other posters on this Community Forum will not fix the problems and headaches that Intuit has caused.

Thanks for your comments.
"iiimaf, Are you the Quicken rah rah cheerleader?"
No, I'm not. I'm just a bit more realistic than so many of the people who don't seem to understand that things sometimes breakdown in the real world.
I guess Quicken is really missing the boat. There are so many "self admitted" experts posting on the forum who know exactly what's wrong and how to fix the problem. Maybe Quicken hasn't been hard at work fixing the problem? Maybe Quicken has been hard at work interviewing these people? After all, our "self admitted" expert posters know so much more about the problem without even having the specific inside information. Just imagine how quickly they would be able to get things back in working shape if they actually knew what was broken!
"I don't think it's too much to ask to get correct quotes."
If you think a product that costs under $100 can and more importantly, should be used to manage your investments, more power to you. Other than being able to keep everything in one place, the investment management capabilities of Quicken are next to nil, when compared to even an "average" brokerage firm. Take a few minutes to look at Quicken's Investment Reports.
Let's see, we have capital gains, investing activity, asset allocation, investment income, investment performance and investment transactions, portfolio value & cost basis. Which of these deals with the future? The future to me is where managing my investments is important. I already know what I did in the past. Quicken usually does a great job dealing with the history of my investments. Yes, the stock quotes have been less than functional for a couple of weeks, but that will pass. Please post back to let me know specifically what I'm missing with Quicken investment capabilities.
"If I had all my investments in one place I would have never bought Quicken."
It's not my fault that your investments aren't all in one place, but as I said above, Quicken doesn't do much with the future. You really might want to take another look at the capabilities of a real brokerage.
"Why are you even using Quicken if you manage your accounts from your broker(s) website(s)?"
You really seem to be somewhat short-sighted. I use Quicken for the same reasons most people use Quicken. Here are a couple of them.
I use it to keep track of and pay upcoming bills. I use it instead of a checkbook. I haven't written a paper check in years. I use it to keep track of investments so that I can see changes in my historical net worth. I use it as a first source for looking up historical transactions. I can easily find a payment that I made last month or eighteen years ago. Every month I reconcile all of my bank and credit card accounts. There are lots of other things I do, but I don't want to bore you.
"Why don't you quit using it and also go back to your paper checkbook register? I bet if the checkbook wasn't working right you wouldn't be so happy."
I was going to give you the old stand-by that my checkbook really doesn't do much, it just sits there and that my math skills are above average, but then I realized that someone like you wouldn't buy into such a lame excuse, so you really have me between the old rock and a hard place. This is really embarrassing. I'm going to have to come clean and admit this to you and everyone else on the forum.
I haven't seen any of my checkbooks for a very long time and the only pencil I own that still has an eraser is so dull, I can't even sign my "X" with it. So there, now you all know the real reason I use Quicken and not my checkbooks.
"You probably don't have enough invested to make a difference whether you get accurate quotes or not."
This is none of your business, but given some of your other comments, I'm going to let it slide. Let's just say that I'm doing pretty well in retirement.

VMMXX price was okay last night at my last down load (first time long time due to all the trouble I see other folks having here.) AFAIK that is still okay. What I see now is that the on-line current price is still wrong. I was thinking that the down-load and on-line problems were two different things.
