I’m happy to report that the migration to the new portfolio system is complete.This new system applies to Quicken Windows 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Ok, the amount you may or may not have invested was a cheap shot and not necessary to the discussion. But you seem to think you know how everyone uses Quicken for their personal use.
I have a "real" brokerage as you put it. I have multiple. Having investments in multiple places is not a fault as you suggest. Again, not the point. The point is my Quicken software doesn't work as it should.
It doesn't matter how much the software costs! It's advertised to download quotes. That's the bottom line! It's been broken since Aug 21 and before that it didn't always work either.
Maybe your bill reminders will screw up for 3 weeks or fail to remind you randomly through the coming years. I'm sure you'd be okay with that.
Also, it seems that it's "correct" for you to look at the past regarding your checkbook, but others aren't supposed to do it with their investments.

I am upgrading from 2007 Quicken Premiere to 2009 Quicken Deluxe. When it converts my data over, I only get daily prices back to 8/1/2008. If I ask it to download quotes going back 5 years, I will only get one quote a week (7/25, 7/18, 7/11, 7/3, 6/27, etc.). I have tried to delete all of the prices and download them again, but I get the same results. I asked my in-laws to try to do a download on their 2006 Deluxe version and they get the same results as me. Is this a problem for anyone else? If not, how do I remedy this?

Historical prices give you 5 years worth of data through Quicken downloads.
I have hIstorical prices prior to 8/29/2003 which are listed once monthly (the last day of the month)
Historical prices 9/12/2003 thru 8/6/2004 are given once weekly.
Historical prices 8/10/2004 to current are on a daily basis.
The quotes prior to the 5 year period are those quotes that are from your investment transaction registers. The reason I see those as once monthly is because I have monthly dividends that are reinvested the last day of the month.
Aside from that, I think this is pretty much how Quicken has worked in the past...as far as I can remember.
In order to "remedy this" (and I don't see this as something that needs to be remedied) is to get quotes from Yahoo finance and import them into Quicken.
Completing your user profile to include the Quicken version/year and Windows operating system helps others troubleshoot your problem.
You should only floss the teeth you want to keep!

Dang it!!!!!
For some unknown reason after I upgraded from 2006 premier to 2009 premier, updates are not coming through on my 401k account. I did everything Quicken said to do re: data corruption...but to no avail. (No erros came back when I validated the data.) I also tried exporting the data, but it no longer imports data from .qif for 401k accounts so that wasn't the answer.
I went ahead and deleted the account...and then added a new account...and the SAME bad data pulled in. When I opened an entirely new file...and set up a new account the information was correct. It will be a HUGE pain...if I have to set everything up again...not to mention the loss of historical information. Any other ideas?

Contrary to what you are trying to push on the community, I never suggested anything of the sort. I simply answered your question and provided a few ways that Quicken helps me. I certainly didn't speak for "everyone."

I'm getting tired of apologizing. All I said was that it wasn't my fault that your investment accounts weren't at the same brokerage. Who else could be blamed for this?
The fact that Quicken hasn't been downloading quotes correctly is a problem ALL Quicken users have been experiencing. I'm dealing with this problem and I believe everyone with 2006 through 2009 has the similar issues.

What can I say in response to a statement like this? If the cost doesn't matter, I suggest you buy a personal financial software package that can keep up with you. Quicken isn't it.

Quicken does download quotes and it has done so without many problems for many years. I've used Quicken since 1991. You would have been very unhappy with Quicken back then because there wasn't any download capability. In fact, Al Gore was still busy trying to re-invent the Internet and getting it to work properly.
For the last couple of weeks we have all had problems. I've got 2006 and 2009 installed and believe it or not, there are different problems with each install. Life goes on, at least in my house. I am in no way a Quicken spokes person. The powers that be keep editing my comments, but that doesn't stop me from supporting Quicken when it's obvious that they look to be doing the best with a bad situation.

Yes, it's OK and even "correct" for me or anyone else to look at the past regarding their checkbook, but you should remember, (you really need some focus) I don't have or use checkbooks. Go back and read my last post again. You completely lost me with your next comment, "but others aren't supposed to do it with their investments." As I said previously, the only thing you can do with Quicken's investment section is look at HISTORY, so I'm fine with that concept as well.
You were talking about managing your investments which to me means the future. Either I'm missing something or you are not communicating your point.
I had version 2005 and it was working just fine but Quicken required me to "upgrade" to 2008 if I wanted to continue linking Quicken to my bank in order to download banking transactions. 2005 is better than 2008, so it cost me $100 or so to upgrade to a product not as good as what I already had. They do this every three years or so for the income.
There are just little annoying things like on Scheduled Transactions there is a loan payment for a loan which was paid off at least 5 years ago. When I try to delete the scheduled transaction, I get a message, "would you like to Undo the delete or Cancel it"? What kind of idiocy is that? Cancel or Undo? Someone tell me the difference.
Currently my problem is that the Quicken program will no longer "Sync" with Quicken.com. I can live without it but since I've been able to do this for years I feel like Intuit is backing up rather than improving. Am I wrong? I've sent numerous emails and even "talked" on the chat deal with no solution. The chat was a total waste of time.

Well, I, for one, have just quit using Quicken altogether other than to check back and look once in a while to see if they have capitulated in any way. I still get e-mail notification of the posts on this forum.
I guess those who are computer nerds can understand the work arounds which are being discussed, but they are really mostly Greek to me. If I wanted to have to do all those things, I probably would not have been using Quicken's (former) simplicity in the first place.
As I have consistently said, I used Quicken as a basic tracker of portfolios and watch stocks where I could see everything in one place at one time. Without that function, Quicken is useless to me.
And the way they divided up the portfolios into different kinds of investments is confusing. If I wanted them separated, I could do that by merely undoing the alphabetization.
I have found it very difficult, if not almost impossible, to track my investments and potential investments in the same way with other trackers.
I still wish some computer nerd could buy the old code used by the old Quicken portfolio tracker, fix it up, and offer it for use.
I would just add that I never used Quicken.com for any serious research anyway as it is/has been too unreliable. You might say it's worth what you pay for it. All of my investments are online with the investment company so I really don't have to have Quicken.com
Bank of America Investment Services, Inc. has it right. I guess the reason I stick with Quicken rather than say, Microsoft Money is inertia and the history. I have used Quicken for many years.
You post looks like you are referring to the desktop verson. Is that correct?
What is the better product that you use?
While I believe that Intuit/Quicken have acted irresponsibly toward their users, I still find that the Desptop product is the bet thing available for the breadth of capability.
With the desktop version you can look at you investments either by portfolio, or as a collection of securities regardless of portfolio. Now, Quicken.com is anothe matter, and I have found it useless since the demise of the ActiveX Control Version

I have just edited my comments at amazon.com regarding Quicken 2009 Premier Edition which now reads as follows. (I can still edit this if you think I am not being objective.)
I have been using Quicken in various versions for over 10 years. It has many excellent features, and I especially like the way it used to interface with the web portfolio tracker at Quicken.com until the "upgrade" at Quicken.com in August 2008. I agree with Quicken Bill concerning the corrupt stock quotes fiasco. I am having major problems with Quicken 2006 and from the hundreds of complaints on the Quicken community forum, this must affect all versions of Quicken. The portfolio feature worked fine until they "upgraded" (actually downgraded) the on-line portfolio service at Quicken.com. Now you can no longer see all of your accounts on one page, and also a large percentage of the quotes are wrong. This has been going on for weeks with no apologies from Quicken. We have asked Quicken to restore the old service which worked fine most of the time, and they refuse to do so. They have no concept of beta testing, and reassure us that they are making every effort to resolve the problem, but there is no evidence that they understand how much damage they are doing to people who rely on good data for investing decisions. Well, I'm glad to know there is an outstanding problem with quotes. I just upgraded from Premier 2007 to 2009 about a week or so ago. Now only a portion of my portfolio gets updated quotes. I hope the problem is fixed soon!

All quotes are OK and have been continuously. Using Schwab primarily and often Quicken. Found that RYN stock history is not there, and Quicken.com cannot find the symbol after typing Rayonier. Perhaps that's the problem. All data for the stock is present (Cntl U,Chose stock,Dbl left Click) except not viewable on the report (Right click on stock, chose Stock History). No data present on this stock, only - remainder OK.
Maybe because I live in San Diego where Intuit resides?!!

It isn't fixed for me.
Just downloaded an update and (1) the portfolio remains "read only" and (2) my cash account data didn't download correctly. I had to "correct transactions" to locate the last weeks.
If these problems persists for more than another week I shall be forced to discontine the product, even though I've used it loyally for over 10 years.
The portfolio feature worked fine until they "upgraded" (actually downgraded) the on-line portfolio service at Quicken.com.
With regard to the sentence I have quoted, I think you are inaccurate. Looking at past history (available within these forums), there have been multiple times in the past year and in the past several years when the 'quotes' feature of Quicken and/or Quicken.com failed. At those times the community of users was exceptionally vociferous in their complaints. Approximately last January (to the best of my immediate recollection without cross-referencing), Intuit indicated the structure of the quotes system would be redone for better reliability in August of this year. That message too was met with many responses to the effect of "What a bunch of incompetent programmers!". I believe it is factual to state that none of those complaining (then or now) had any direct knowledge of the complexities involved.
Too state that the prior system "worked fine" when it did not is an inaccurate oversimplification.

When I do a"one step update", I get following message

Can anybody tell me when this will be fixed, or am I doing something wrong????
The answer indicated by previous posts indicates about Sept 15, or so, for a "Fix" At the bottom of this page, you should note that we are on Page 19 of this thread, with about 25 posts per page.
To stop getting the "Database in read only mode", until they finally "solve" the issue of portfolio sync for Quicken.com, why don't you, in the One Step Update Settings Window, just uncheck the little boxe(s,) at the bottom, before Quicken.com, that are related to syncing, or updating the Quicken.com portfolio, (WebEntry is a dead function now), ,so that when you finally punch update now, it doesn't even try to do a sync of data. You might still be left with the red flag,or information alert sign from the last attempt. to sync, but so what?? By the way,do you even USE the online Quicken.com portfolio feature, where you have to put in a user name and password to access???
